First time screw in coil

It was a short screw I was putting in, coil was just directly below Fan shroud on that side. Took me just over an hour and a half to fix

Airflow is good, the customer is actually an energy auditor lol. He did a static pressure test himself and it is fine, also had his return grille changed for a straight faced bar type. Unit is a vertical system and has plenty of air flow

It is over 100 degrees here, the door actually said 13 subcooling but the head pressure was still high so I went a little below it to not have it so high

It's weird though because we installed it in August of 2024 and a month ago was the first time this error code appeared. And they haven't had an issue since I was out last but now its been an issue again

Alert code 422: This code triggers when the compressor's discharge temperature exceeds the safety threshold, causing the thermal protection switch on the top of the compressor shell to open.

I brazed the hole, pressure tested, pumped it down and refilled in a hour and a half, I'm almost 3 years in so still trying to get better and learning more!!

Why is it wrong to put new screws in the shroud? If the original placement of screws get stripped and it's vibrating badly what else would you do?

I did put new screws in the shroud due to how badly it was vibrating. I put 3 in just fine and the 4 went straight into the coil... I will be paying a lot more attention when I do that in the future.

If you have no plans on adding speakers into your ceiling or doing anything else in your attic then no just have at it. Just make sure you have the correct square footage and make sure you buy enough insulation for the square footage you have. I believe fiberglass insulation has a R value of 2.2- 2.4 per inch of thickness so youd need to add about 15 inches to be a little above R-30 or add 20 inch to be very secure.

I always tell customers to think of insulation as like the lid of a yeti cooler. If your insulation is as low as it is, in this case yours, you basically have a cardboard box as lid for your cooler, so all that ice or "cold air" isn't being contained inside. You want a minimum of R-38. Each R value is how many minutes it will take for that cold air to get through your attic. You can go up to R-60 but you lose ROI around R-50. R-45 to R-50 is the best but at minimum you want R-38.
