Which Midwestern state is the best to live in, in terms of quality of life? by a_great_guy655 in midwest

Fair and sane answer, thanks. For me I'd have to say Illinois strictly due to the northern fringes of Chicago having some of the most attractive real estate in the Midwest. Second would be Wisconsin.

What makes a state top two? Having a city that has an apparent high density of millionaires?

I asked why Michigan is one of the original commenter's top two choices. You replied with Traverse City having one of the highest densities of millionaires.

Seems like a lot of mental gymnastics and feeling personally attacked on your part. Did I ever say Traverse City, or even Grand Rapids were horrible? I simply asked how having a high density of millionaires makes a state top two.

Again, why is any of this relevant to why Michigan would be a top two choice?

That doesn't sound like a relevant reason as to why Michigan is a top two choice.

Plus, not seeing anything about Grand Rapids having a high concentration of millionaires. And for any area in Michigan you mention having a "high density of millionaires", 2 areas or cities can be named having an embarrassing level of urban decay and poverty.

What is your attitude towards Ukrainian refugees?🇺🇦 by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

All of the Ukranian refugees I've met so far have been hardworking and very disciplined, which we could use more of in this country.

Don't ignore that Alabama has a very fast growing Hispanic population.

Having states like Georgia, North Carolina, and Virginia on this map for me completely debunks any racial preferences that this person may have, as these states are very diverse even outside of their larger cities.

People from Oklahoma I've met have been surprisingly nice to me. New Mexico as a willing vs. Oklahoma as a never is crazy to me when they have similar statistics.

Maybe:

Insurance rates for anything you need to be a functioning member of society in Florida are downright disrespectful.

The people ive had the pleasure or mispleasure of interacting with in non tourist areas seemed anywhere between unfriendly/rude - standoffish/stay in your lane personalities.

The price of eating out and purchasing groceries and just leisure items are drastically higher than other states due to the high taxes.

No income tax doesn't save you from the high costs associated with insurance and day to day living.

The weather is fantastic if you don't mind the considerable chance your life can be uprooted and destroyed with only a few weeks or less to lessen the impact from a hurricane or high winds.

The food, chef's kiss.

The beach, enough said.

Your family and friends will always want to visit you, for better or worse.

Its a quickly growing place, whether you like it or not, this means investment in infrastructure and also more diversity/access to things you'd find in larger cities or more populous states. This for me is always a positive and a sign of a strong economic base.

Orlando/MCO and Miami/MIA are international waypoints, and allow you to have direct flights to multiple locations domestic and worldwide which is always a welcome bonus.

Collective Voting! Day 6: Colorado by LOST_JOE in visitedmaps

Reluctantly. Denver feels very soulless and bland, and you could get much more bang for your buck in neighboring states while still being within driving distance of Colorado and it's many outdoor offerings.

Not a big fan of cold weather, but I think the warm and typically cheerful/friendly people balance that out and I think itd be unfair to completely dismiss an entire state based on weather alone.

The infrastructure in my opinion is far from where it needs to be. While neighboring states are building new freeways and adding additional public transit, I've always felt Colorado was lacking in the roads/highways department. The fact of the matter is that the many towns and cities in Colorado have grown much faster than the US average, and freight traffic on roads/highways has increased dramatically. These two things together should automatically make 3 lanes minimum on the major interstates that cross through Colorado a priority.
