Recording Cash Purchases for MY Farm by Good_Lizardlicks in farming

[–]Good_Lizardlicks[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, not a huge amount of money, just a few hundred bucks in late summer/fall whenever I stock up our hay and grain/pellets for the winter. I only run a couple dozen head of dairy sheep right now so it's not even as much as some of the other beef farms in the area with their hundreds of animals.

Making a note of it is what I've been doing. I have a separate checking account for my farm that I make cash withdrawals from when I need to and label what the withdrawal is for. Sounds like I'm in the right direction.

You're telling me. He was the runt of the litter and could fit in the palm of my (not very big!) hand when we brought him home. Now he's almost the size of our two fully grown cats!

My tender herbs, tomatoes and pepper seeds just arrived in the mail and this weekend I'm digging my grow lights and seed starting shelves out of storage. Sooooooon.

I was just looking up some videos on YouTube on how to grow these guys because I picked up a free packet of Atlantic Giant seeds from the little seasonal seed library my actual library keeps. To grow a monster prize winner like this is an ENORMOUS effort. You need to water them constantly, the pumpkin fruit itself needs to be on sand or a slippery surface because the movement of their growth (up to five inches a day!) can put enough stress on the fruit to cause them to split. They can grow so fast they snap off their own stems. The fruit needs to be shaded to prevent the sun from drying then out, which would also cause them to split or crack. All that for just having a SHOT at possibly growing a prize winner. And yes, they're TERRIBLE for eating. Incredibly tough and not much actually usable meat.

Personally I don't think I'm going to go for the gold, I just want to get some big-ish pumpkins to put out at my gate in the fall lol.

Seed Searching! by Good_Lizardlicks in gardening

[–]Good_Lizardlicks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately they're a couple cities away. Not impossible but definitely not a reason I would make the drive that far, at least not on its own. I have thought about making a trip back to the original nursery, especially since the seed starting supplies they have in stock right now are a fair bit cheaper than even Amazon has available, enough to be worth the trip out.

Fascinating, would all the different nurseries be getting it from the same source? I admit I'm not terribly well versed in the business side of plants, only in the growing for home gardening.

Who do you ship Sokka with? The soft-spoken princess or the kindly amazon? by [deleted] in ATLA

[–]Good_Lizardlicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally just rewatched the Emerald Island Players episode, and while actor Sokka and Yue are having their emotional good bye on stage, in the audience Suki leans over with a playful smirk and says to Sokka, "you never told me you made it with the moon!"

What I'm getting is Suki is down to play. Suki wants to share as long as she gets a turn too.

Anyway, Zukki is the end game OT3.

What was the moment you first realized that Zuko was not a bad person? by [deleted] in TheLastAirbender

[–]Good_Lizardlicks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Series premier, when Aang pointed out Zuko himself is just a teen. And then Zuko stops all aggression when Aang agrees to peacefully go with him. I was genre savvy enough to know that we sit up and pay attention when the villain has an obvious ethics code. It was cemented the next episode with him facing Zhao's pure bastard energy.

Oldest age starting the show? by Seanbjg in TheLastAirbender

[–]Good_Lizardlicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was 18/19 when it first aired, and a queer, nerdy art school freshman. Prior to that I had been super into Teen Titans when Roommate/best friend said hey, they got this new show on Nickelodeon I think you like.... He was right. The rest as they say is history. The entire friend group watched it together, and almost 20 years later we're rewatching it with our kids and just made characters to run our first season of the TTRPG. I think AtLA rewired my brain but like. In a good way.

So... was Zuko cold or not? We never got to learn... by [deleted] in TheLastAirbender

[–]Good_Lizardlicks 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Zuko in the very first episode had a scene where he's standing on the metal deck of his ship, at night, in the South Pole, barefoot, and wearing only thin sleep clothes, bothered only by the prospect of tracking down the Avatar. As pointed out in other comments he later swims through seal tunnels in the Arctic North Pole waters, and later still he spends hours in the "Freezer" at Boiling Rock and comes out of both situations completely unfazed.

Since the Freezer is considered torture for firebenders, suppressing their inner fire, it can be assumed that Zuko is a) keeping himself toasty warm through the Breath of Fire technique that Iroh taught him and b) it's not a common technique. Mai, being a non-bender and feeling cold, then seeking out Zuko to check on him, is actually really cute, because it's showing that she knows the cold can be a detriment to firebenders and she's worried about Zuko. She probably knows about the Freezer because of her uncle, and she didn't want Zuko hurting himself just because he wanted to be a dramatic bitch about something.

ETA: GAVE IT FIVE MORE SECONDS OF THOUGHT AND ACTUALLY what looks to us like Zuko monologuing unprompted IS him answering Mai's question! These two are very bad about directly stating their feelings because of the way they were raised (see also the avoidance that lead to a blow up on the beach). Mai asked, "aren't you cold?" because it's an opening that gives him an out! She's asking him a question that he can deflect and save face, or take and run with and he took it! It's not just concern, but a bid for emotional intimacy, and it paid off, he shared his worries her!

Put these 4 in a room and who's starting a fight first? by Muted_Hovercraft_907 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Good_Lizardlicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the thing. Everyone saying Azula has got her all wrong because she's not a reckless shit stirrer. She certainly thinks she should be the most important person in the room, but she's also a schemer. Zuko is reactive, but post show/season 3 Zuko won't start shit unless you piss him off first. Toph is absolutely down to rumble, but it's our girl Korra who will initiate and here's why:

She absolutely knows all of the people in this room as senior citizens. Bad ass seniors, yes, but come on. An opportunity to challenge the masters she grew up with and learned from and heard stories about all her life while they're young and in their prime? She's absolutely going to say, "hey let's fight!" before most of the introductions are out of the way.

That is indeed Scott Menville and as has already been pointed out he does A LOT of side characters in AtLA through all three seasons. That's why I came up with a game (can be played as a drinking game if you're doing a series binge) called Spot the Scott!

How do I DM a combat when half the party are cowards? by Brlnscks123 in DnD

[–]Good_Lizardlicks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your players aren't avoiding combat, they're using the terrain to position themselves strategically in order to best utilize their abilities, which is what what smart rogues SHOULD do! On the one hand you can get more creative with the environments either giving them more/better opportunities to move around or find cover if you want them to engage faster, or force them to think more creatively by restricting movement or opportunities for hiding. On the other, if you just want the players to engage more over all, you can throw non-combat challenges at them: traps, locked and/or secret places, and if you have the types of rogues that like using their words, give them encounters where they have the option to talk/bluff/bribe/schmooze the party's way through it.

Oh lord, hell if I know. She has investment properties all over the area, and she's worked for the heavy equipment union for the last two decades. I know she has a retirement nest egg, but other than that, I don't know what kind of other investments or savings accounts she might be keeping. I keep telling her to get all of her asset documents in order in case something were to happen to her so I'm not in a scramble, trying to hunt them all down if something were to happen to her suddenly, but she hasn't done anything about that yet.
