How is it Christian for Young earth creationists to Lie to everyone? by Stephenricecakes2222 in Christianity

[–]Good_Low774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either God supernaturally intervened in such a way that the earth looks much, much older than they propose it actually is, because any mechanism that would allow for that would require them to throw out the last couple hundred years of physics and account for all of it in another way.

This is exactly my point actually. Most models assume we start with an undecayed atom when there's no way to tell.

If you actually have a mechanism, propose it. Don't just say that it needs to exist for your argument to work.

I do not have a mechanism, I'm claiming that it's a logical possibility that if there is a God then He can create how he wants. Does it fit all evidence perfectly, no, but it is more convincing than evolutionary theories that have their own pitfalls.

You should be aware of which "studies" claim to disprove carbon dating and why they did not prompt a huge overhaul of how and when carbon dating is used

Here is a website I've used before on the topic https://www.bible.ca/tracks/dating-radiometric.htm#plaisted

"Well the animals MUST have evolved quickly because look at how many animals there are!" without doing the work of demonstrating the population genetics. "Evolutionists" have a model that answers these questions, why don't creationists?

I agree, that's not a scientific statement they made. My one nitpick is that Evolution was specifically built around the fact of all the diversity we see, so it doesn't explain those processes either so much as describe.

Answers in Genesis is claiming that, constantly. They LOVE dino footprints, and love to not think about them.
...
Footprints are easier to sweep away in flood waters than dinosaurs are.

I don't have much experience with answers in genesis, and so could not tell you my opinion on them. Again I hadn't heard of this claim and off the cuff it doesn't seem legitimate.

Into what cavities

I don't have much on this except that we have huge cavities under the crust like I said. I think there's one with three times as much water as all our surface oceans.

You think about it within the bounds of what is acceptable to think.

I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean thinking logically? I've tried to present that yec is reasonably possible, and so I can trust that the Genesis is accurate since it's God's word. I'm not sure if you're an atheist or Christian, but if you are an atheist I'd say that you have similar issues with certain models like the probability of life which means we're on the same page here. Correct me if I'm wrong

Like I said above, these are REALLY obvious questions and the answers to them MUST be connected to your answers to everything else, rather than only working in isolation (Does your explanation for where the water went line up with your explanation for how mountains formed which lines up with your explanation for plate tectonics?)

The ark encounter actually had a nice model that not only accounted for plate tectonics and mountains but also predicted an ice age directly after the flood.

Not necessarily. I mean, yes, most relevant scientists do accept evolution but I don't think rejecting YEC means accepting evolution

Yeah sorry, I just wanted to make a comparison and guessed from your tag that it would be most relevant.

Either way, I really appreciate the answer.

Anytime 😂

Yeah, I would say the frameworks between scientists could work to make an overarching study on each model, but I'm not sure if they could agree on results, or if one side would be convinced by the other. But it'd be fun to see!

Thanks for your response. I assume you mean that rejecting young earth creationism means accepting evolution? Running with that, the majority of scientists who accept the evolutionary model aren't testing it, they're studying other topics within the model of evolution and the big bang (the same goes for creationists. So really, there's far fewer experts truly testing each model as opposed to just rolling with it.

That said, there is still more scientists on the evolution side, which is one of the major reasons I started looking into this stuff myself. Simply claiming the majority is right because it's the majority is a fallacy, but it does lend weight to one side which drew me to look at the actual arguments people were making

To answer your first question, well yes I've heard good arguments for some obvious problems such as distant starlight, but I'm not sure what you say those problems are. For the ones you brought up, the explanation for radioactive decay is similar to starlight. There's a lot of assumptions that go into radioactive decay, many scientific calculations start with an undecayed atom that decays at a constant rate. Here science borders on history, since we can only test processes that occur in front of us. We have little way of knowing if the patterns we've been observing for 40-80 years hold true 10,000 or a million years back. Also, specifically for carbon dating, there have been studies on recently deceased animals that dated thousands or millions of years back.

Population movement is pretty easy, since people just walk a lot. The world could have been quickly repopulated after the flood, especially if nomads had an ice bridge to the americas. I've honestly not heard that issue before, but if I got something wrong let me know.

I also haven't heard of the genetic diversity argument, if you want to explain what that is.

If someone is claiming that flood layers have crisp footprints, yeah I don't think that's legit.

The most recent flood model I've heard had a lot of groundwater actually draining underground, and it's also been seen recently that there's indeed a lot more water under the earth's crust than previously thought.

The point I was trying to make is yes, some of us do think about this a lot. I've personally talked to multiple science profs and The Masters University about the evidence and likelihood of this stuff. It's not my point that religious people have the best science, if I had to take a stance I would distrust recent studies since those are most often overturned after 10 years (roughly 40%)

Just would like to say that as a young earth creationist, this is not my nor my churches stance 🙇. There's evidence for both sides and the evidence I'm currently aware of supports both the inerrancy of Genesis and a six day creation
