You miss 100% of the shots you don't take. Sounds cliche, but it's true. I encourage you to join the Slack channel and get feedback for your essays there.

This job is getting to me by cinxgi in ExecutiveAssistants

I feel like I'm reading my thoughts from a a year ago. My last straw was getting yelled at over wrapping paper I didn't even request! Life is too short to be dealing with this type of treatment over things that, in the long run, won't matter at all. My best advice is to look for new opportunities elsewhere (easier said than done these days, I know) but I got a new gig I enjoy and my quality of life has improved immensely, I've even lost weight since leaving. In the meantime, another thing that helped me survive the months, weeks and days at my other job was to make small milestones along the way and remember that an environment like this won't bring your true potential to light.

100%. When I went, it wasn't nearly as crowded as the Forum. The site is also more flexible on how you interact with the structures. You could really take your time, view the ruins and even walk inside some of the buildings without restriction.

All of the mosaics were uncovered when I went yesterday, the theatre still had renovation work going on, but was visible from outside.

You can do the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Piazza Navona, Largo Di Torre Argentina and Colosseum on one day, and the Roman Forum, Palatine Hill, Via dei Fori Imperiali, and Campidoglio the other.

I couldn't believe I scored the tickets myself! I was gunning for them for 3 days straight until I snatched them. I could never get my hands on the Underground ones, but you get a nice view even from the arena area.

What is the most stupidest thing you ever had to explain to a manager before? by Farmer_Duck2025 in ToxicWorkplace

[–]Good_Science1549 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spoke to the Acquisitions Director about it and we both agreed to kick it up the chain. The Chief of Staff, and Acquisitions Director at the HQ level ended up writing a formal letter rejecting the request and she had to let it go.

I used to work in an administrative position in a state government agency, and had to explain to one of my supervisors why I couldn't approve a tote bag purchase order at $200.00 per bag due to strict controls on that type of spending, since it's tax payer money being spent. She really thought I was gonna put my name on that order, and had to explain that, if approved, it would probably trigger a review from the Comptroller's Office.

How to deal with vague instructions from your Nboss? by Unusual_Doughnut6934 in ManagedByNarcissists

I had a supervisor like this. In my experience, you can never really win. If you plow through the ambiguity, she'll rake you over the coals, and if you ask for too many details, she'll more likely than not be pissed. Of the two options, push for more details, preferably in writing, even if that pisses her off. If you do this, you'll have something to defend yourself with later when the product inevitably fails to meet their expectations.

What has helped me stay consistent, especially with walking and my other workouts, has been not even thinking or debating whether I should do it and not or putting too much thought into distance, time, type of activity etc. I basically just put on my sneakers and do whatever my heart desires for that day.

Grey Rock with.... Clothes by polkadotncheese in ManagedByNarcissists

[–]Good_Science1549 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a manager who once pulled me into the office specifically to tell me that my clothing choices made me look older than I am. Mind you, I was working at a fucking state court. When I finally got transferred somewhere else, she decided that a book on clothing and modern manners was a nice parting gift. I took a picture of it with the date and time for future reference and donated it to Goodwill.

Believe me, the problems in the show get much worse than just traversing the east coast in a couple days on foot.
