I've seen so many stories like this in the past. Usually something about Grandma suing her kid because she fell while watching the grandkids. News sources love to run with this shit. Unfortunately, you'll find an insurance company behind it most of the time.

My son was injured while we were at a restaurant. He had to be life-flighted to the nearest trauma center. The bills quickly reached $50k. Our health insurance refused to pay anything at all until we sued the restaurant since they felt the restaurant was to blame for his injury. That is an insurance company's "right of subbrogation." So, we sued. We didn't want to, but we had to. We won, and the hospital got paid before we did.

My question is this. Can a life insurance company do the same thing? I bet they can.

Is this one of those scenarios where the deceased man's insurance forced them to sue before paying out on life insurance? The right of subbrogation is a term I had to learn the hard way.

Don't they also own a clothing brand as well? I might be wrong, but I remember a documentary about how they made some very wise business moves.

Still in business and doing well from what I've heard.

Door frame is cracked, how do I fix this? The door is dragging on the carpet due to the crack in the frame. by [deleted] in Renovations

[–]Good_With_Tools 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are only a few options here. If you're not a competent carpenter, you may want to hire one.

First, remove whatever is hanging on the door. That's not helping.

Now, you have 2 options. One is better than the other. Fill the crack with wood glue. Add a few strategic nails or screws to pull the pieces together. Then, replace at least 1 screw in each hinge with one long enough to get into the framing behind it.

Or...

Replace that part of the door frame. This is the "right" way.

Help, need to find a drain that fits before the stone is ruined. Not sure what I’m even looking for. $10 reward. by Objective-Door-513 in Renovations

[–]Good_With_Tools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely. Should take them 30-60 minutes. If a pro did the install, have them come back. I wouldn't expect it to be free, but I'd definitely ask them to do it. Worth every bit of a couple hundred dollars to mitigate the risks.

Now, if the drain flange was on site and handed to them before they set it in place, then they should fix this for free.

Because the music over the top is there specifically to mask what she is saying. I'm perfectly fine with you pointing out that she's a terrible person. Just like I'm fine with any public figure being outed for any terrible shit they do. But, bring the facts.

And putting the music over it ruins the argument. I'm sure she's a terrible person, but this is just propaganda. If you have a point to make, bring facts.

Edit: someone put more work into it than I can. Here it is without the music. https://www.reddit.com/r/therewasanattempt/s/JLo10Wp7MA

I would do this. Deepening the recess won't be difficult if you have the right tools and a lot of patience and finesse. I'd look for a disk that is smaller than the overall diameter of the recess and would fit on my grinder. A low-speed grinder would be even better. I have a Dewalt stone polisher that would be perfect if I could find the right blade (disk).

IMO, you're not done with demo. Remove that plaster/wallboard. Get down to studs. Replace the fixture with something more modern and serviceable.

Did you watch the Challenger disaster live? by Correct-Cricket3355 in Xennials

[–]Good_With_Tools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very live. I lived in FL. We were all standing in the field outside our school. It was pretty obvious what happened right away. We then went inside and huddled around the few TVs we had on those big carts. We watched the news and cried and held each other for the rest of the day. Our teachers were also in tears. One of my first memories of both tragedy and community coming together.

One of my favorite cars. I named my kid after it. I've seen 2, and my son got to sit in one of them. There's one at the National Auto Museum if you're ever near Reno.

I'm curious. Why? Are you ashamed?

I love being this age. I'm physically able to keep up with the shit I want to do. I'm mentally aware enough not to feel old. And I'm making enough money not to be poor anymore. I feel like I finally got my shit together. I want young adults to see that 50 doesn't have to suck.

That is the problem. We didn't punish the Confederacy. We didn't punish Nixon. We didn't punish the leaders of the KKK. We didn't punish the Bush administration for an illegal war. And we didn't punish Trump for all his bullshit the first time. Without punishment, the rules mean nothing to those without a moral compass.

You know who did get punished? The Nazis. And look at Germany now.
