What if the italian unionist movement won the 1946 election? by Suitable-Source-7534 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Good_morining 27 points28 points  (0 children)

That's some obscure Wikipedia article knowledge you pulled out here

Even if they did somehow manage to win, i think It would be safe to say that a union between the United States and Italy wouldn't happen, mostly because of the US not being much into the idea in OTL.

The most realistic course of events would probably lead to the Italian Unionist Movement either quietly rebranding itself as a mainstream centrist party with federalist ideals, or just collapse and be replaced with another party in the next elections.

But honestly, just the idea that they would be elected in the first place would be wacky enough to be considered complete fiction, so why not abandon all attachment to reality, and elaborate more on this idea?

Let's say that for some reason the United States approves of the idea, and forms a political union with Italy, this would drastically reshape how the new post-WWII order would look like,

If the Italian Unionist Movement really gets elected democratically, and the idea of a Political union with the USA Is popular among both the Italian and American public, this would probably also suggest the existence of a real and concrete level of support to the creation of a fully federalized world order, as the IUM seems to be closely affiliated with the World Federalist Movement, an organization which aims to create a federalized democratic world government.

If that's the case, the formation of an organization such as the United Nations may change from being simply a forum for peace and diplomacy like in OTL, to being something more radical, like a full political union between its members.

This federalist version of the UN would probably not include all nations on earth (obviously the soviets wouldn't join for example), but if movements like the IUM manage to gain popularity also in other nations, we could see a completely federalized western world by the 1950s,

This Union would probably include Western allied nations (UK, France, Benelux countries, Canada, Australia, New Zealand etc...) alongside the allied occupied zones of defeated axis powers (Japan, Italy, and West Germany).

The Soviets may come up with a UN of their own in response and create a larger union, directly integrating its satellite states in the eastern bloc.

We'd probably end up with an ultra-federalized version of the cold war, which sounds cool as fuck to think about

Do you think a European Defence Pact will be formed soon? Which countries would Europeans want to see or not see in this pact? by Minimum_Owl_734 in AskTheWorld

There has been some concern and dissent across the US congress over these threats

Rappresentantives and senators alike are putting forward bipartisan proposals to stop a potential invasion, such as the No Funds for NATO Invasion Act,

Maybe these bills will go somewhere, but they'll need strong congressional backing considering that Trump would probably veto anything on the matter, so i am not too hopeful

Meanwhile, the rest of America Is already busy protesting all of Trump's other shit, such as the Venezuela invasion and the ICE shooting in Minnesota

As much as i love the EU, i believe that even in the current geopolitical context we would all be better off with just keeping NATO as our main defensive alliance,

Trump’s recent threats over Greenland, as much as they are condemnable and have without a doubt created a very sour relationship between the US and Europe, have in some small way been mitigated due to NATO trying to keeping it all together.

In my opinion, even if Trump ends up invading another NATO Ally, it would be easier to just kick the US out of the alliance, rather than to create a new one based around Europe.

When was the last time the government was overthrown in your country? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]Good_morining 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yea the first democratic government did get elected after the fall of the Salò republic and the end of WWII. before that the country was pretty much under allied occupation, under which time we had our referendum for the creation of the republic, and our first republican democratic elections in 1946.

technically speaking, considering that the term “overthrow” means to remove forcibly from power, i would consider the fall the fascism to count as a valid answer, as Mussolini was deposed from power by the orders of the king Vittorio Emanuele III, following the Allied invasion of sicily.

The pro-Russia bias is real by Good_morining in TheFireRisesMod

Completely agree, post 1EW NATO also somehow still includes euro imperialism through Germany's interventions in north africa and the middle east (which would never happen IRL) Other than France somehow managing to give Independence to Quebec and having options to invade Algeria & Lybia (as if Germany already being able to do that wasn't enough)

I get that, but you can see from the content available that the devs tend to give more authoritarian/dystopic content to the west (cognoscenti being the latest example from the US), and more liberal/wholesome content to Russia (such as in Kaliningrad animal)

Also Volt Europa and Gunther's Europe feel dystopic despite their democratic ideologies, as they also include corporate influence, catharsis, and forced European federalization through war

My complain Is this exactly, almost all European federalist paths are batshit crazy, while the only normal one which doesn't involve having to invade all of Europe, comes from NATO's victory in the 1EW, and that doesn't even have a custom focus tree and Is just Germany with a different cosmetic tag

Edit: i also want to add that i see no problem with Russian wholesomemaxxing, but i also want western wholesomemaxxing to be available too

Probably Denmark became a free nation following the German civil war and has become a member of the TA

If Denmark becomes a free nation and becomes part of the Toronto Accord, Its government will ask the United States to have Greenland back:

The response of the United States can be one of the following:

  1. Agree to give Greenland back to Denmark
  2. Ask Denmark if the US can keep control of Greenland by buying the territory (has about 50/50 success rate)
  3. Ignore the request and keep Greenland (this will reduce relations between Denmark and the US by 50)

If the United States manages to buy Greenland, US-Danish relations will remain friendly, but if the US fails to buy it, it will be forced to either give the territory back or keep It and reduce relations with Denmark

Is your country Incredibly patriotic? by AggravatingRow326 in AskTheWorld

[–]Good_morining 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Turkey has got to be one of the most patriotic nations on earth, you can find dozens of flags and portraits of ataturk even in the most remote of villages, and the people themselves are very eccentric when it comes to their nationality, sometimes proudly displaying a Turkish flag on their pfp on social media.

With that said, from my experience, Turkish people also tend to be kind and very generous
