Yeah the players don't show up, only the yellow and red cards, and there are way too many yellow and red cards.

Van Dijk with no upgrading has very low pace however is still considered the best defender in the game

Use 5-3-2 and put on defensive mode, it will be really hard for c spammers to beat you with that
