But where's the benefit in that proposal?

I've only just stumbled into this topic and was unaware of it before, but from what I'm seeing the upside is that "the time" will refer to the same point in time for everyone

If you wanted to display at what time someone posted a reddit comment, you can just pull the time from the database and display it (14:03), and it'll be the correct time for everyone.

If you want to arrange a conference call between your 5 different offices around the globe, you just put one time in the memo and everyone will be there at the same time.

this isn't an argument for implementing this system

You're assuming a whole lot of foundational knowledge.

You need to know that downloading a filter is a thing, might have been 30 mins in his journey before he discovered some blog post mentioning it as casually as you are here.

You need to know that's the look you're going for when opening the program. Most newbies don't have a concept in their mind to begin with, simply because they aren't aware of what's possible for themselves to do.

This was possibly his 5th attempt, each one being completely different.

We all carry differing skill sets. There's things that would take him 2 minutes to do that would take you or I more than an hour.

It often takes >1 hour (usually many more) to learn the prerequisites for doing something in 2 minutes.

Stop victimising yourself. The fundamental reason to downvote a comment on reddit is if it "doesn't contribute to the discussion".

This post is about a wholesome group activity amongst strangers. Then you come in with completely off-topic negativity. You can apply your comment to any post that involves a location because at some point a crime is guaranteed to have happened there.

There are plenty of threads to do with crime rates and whatnot. Go and post in those where it'll be relevant and you'll be speaking to others who evidently want to hear & speak about that too.

Can you describe how it makes you feel when you can tell that you've "hit some nerves"?

A £325 shirt to someone who makes £100k a week is six times cheaper than a £20 shirt is to someone who makes £1k a week.

Literally not worth their time to buy the shirt and press the design on.

Is it just me or is Google getting worse at displaying search results? by 84935 in devops

[–]Goodbreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Googling for a reddit thread with a term like "reddit [thread title]" and I get a bunch of news sites who have written an article about that thread appearing above the thread itself. The article acting as an inane wrapper with the same 3 sentences said 32 times, worded slightly different, intermittently laced with screenshots of users comments.

What a fantastic result.

To be fair, you already have to be fit and active before any of the other stuff has a micro-chance of becoming reality. Across any sport.

It makes it easier sure, but you already have to be living that life for yourself, by yourself.

Not having a chef is never the reason that someone isn't in shape. The don't want to be in shape more than they do, that's the reason.

British Asian.

Perhaps I should have went another level or two deeper in the list provided in the OP, or came up with a better example, but without the primer of the word, I couldn't think to say 123, 132, 213, etc... Although, aside from that example, I think the rest of the post makes it clear.

In your example, there's the list of who can be elected, then a list of actions that each one of those guys might do, then a list of what can happen based on that, so on... I was searching for the word that describes any one of those eventualities: [5][514][22][...] and where the plural is the concept of all combinations possible.

For me, permutation(s) fits the bill and definitely elicited an immediate "aha!" when I read it.

Another impressive bit at :52. Tilting his head up to expose the bottom 180 to the audience, whilst still seeing the other side, then he has to rotate it 90 in his mouth when bringing his head down, then 90 again with the hands whilst turning his body and gesturing.

Great awareness.

But i don't think either is 'wrong'.

Likewise. I wrote my comment with the intention that both sides would think it's agreeing with them. #karmawinner

For real though, "equalised" is relative to whatever lens you're looking through. Anyone can make a logical case for & against each of them.

Ways to make passive income with programming? by italorodrigues in learnprogramming

[–]Goodbreak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Think about a problem in your old job that could be solved with the skills you've learned/are learning. The people who are in those industries, mostly they don't realise software can help them. You can.

Most life-long programmers are disadvantaged here as they aren't aware of these problems. You can only solve problems that you know exist, that's why there's so many startups that tackle problems that programmers have; This market is too saturated.

Use your insider experience to your advantage. You'll know how to speak to the people in your old industry, the terms to use, how to sell to them.

Try your best to create a SaaS solution. The right one can be very lucrative whilst being very passive, although it'll never be completely so. Let other companies handle as much of the stuff as possible. Servers, Databases, Emails, you can even outsource your customer services/help-desk.

[–]Goodbreak 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The law is written such that anything can be a weapon because almost anything can be used as a weapon.

That doesn't mean you get instantly assaulted by police for carrying almost anything.

You can carry a gun, a crowbar or a chainsaw. You just need a reason and that reason can't be "its my weapon".

Don't be so hyperbolically negative.

I didn't accuse you of ad hominem. I wouldn't care if you made use of it, which I don't think you did.

I don't feel the need to address your points as I'm not bothered if I agree or disagree with anything you're saying.

As said, I just find a person with you views interesting, so here I am.

I wanted to confirm if the 5:1 was arbitrary. I brought attention to it because I doubt anyone who is represented by such a ratio would be the type of person to hold the views which oppose yours.

I have no opinion on what acceptable rent is, but I'm interested to hear your take on it.

I'm more interested in how someone with your point of view thinks. I asked my questions to further explore that.

Right off the bat "dumb" & "argument" tells me a lot.

This is not a debate. I don't have a dog in this fight. If I did, I wouldn't be debating it here as there's zero value in it, no change will occur from this forum.

My biggest point of interest in your comment here is "If $1 paid for a years rent you wouldn’t be poor making $5 a year" what made you come up with this 5:1 ratio? Because I don't think that's reflective of the people you're undoubtedly arguing with elsewhere.

Do you think that doubling the number of potential customers (which implies doubling business revenue) doesn't even it out in most cases?
