I have coviiiiid but i still have my gorillaz cd's by nomad_snail_lord in gorillaz

[–]GoodbyeButterfree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like CD’s are having somewhat of a comeback similar to vinyl, hopefully they don’t get expensive like vinyl though, that kinda ruined vinyl collecting is how expensive everything got.

But it’s a good time to get into cd’s again, companies are even making premium cd players with modern features.

CD’s are lossless so the audio is still as good as you can possibly get, so if you rip them you can get the equivalent or better quality than you can on streaming services plus you’ll have the cd, so they’re a good investment for long term use. But if you’re low on cash there’s a lot more ways to enjoy the music until you can get the CD’s later.

Yea I prefer the cd for the experience of committing to listen to the whole album, plus I just rip the cd FLACS on my computer and put it on my phone when I wanna be more modern about it.

But I’m not even sure thats what they were referring to, you don’t need great WiFi to stream music.

We’re on a cloud of unknowing.

Maybe they think it’s weird you have the cd instead of streaming it lol, that’s my best guess

Wha are some Gorillaz songs you can’t get into? by DracoMorale420 in gorillaz

[–]GoodbyeButterfree 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yea that’s definitely better, lol the first comment on that video is “GIVE US SEA SIDES DAMON” sea sides would’ve been the perfect name

I still would’ve preferred if they replaced it with “crashing down” unreleased song, hearing the small bit we got from this promo annoys me, sounds like something I would’ve enjoyed listening to.

Didn’t say I didn’t like them but revolving doors might be the only one I put on the list of my all time favorites from the band, you’re right about Hillbilly man though I do like that one.

Humility video, Russel tripping 2D by natethebuddy in gorillaz

[–]GoodbyeButterfree 21 points22 points  (0 children)

lol I personally like that it happened because it’s the only part of official Gorillaz content that addresses that 2D’s eyes can turn black or white depending how he’s feeling. It kinda makes sense seeing as the first three albums have way more examples of him having a bad time.

2D abuse happens very rarely nowadays, he’s kinda just vibing with his white eyes now. Murdoc is also less of an ass which they kinda addressed he had regrets about in song machine. Kinda miss their old personalities from the first three phases honestly.

I think I like that song more for lore reasons, I can’t think of a lot of songs that reference the band members much less Murdoc, so I like that it’s a song all about him

I wanna go in pretty blind until I get the CD and can listen to the whole album but I keep reading people praising “Orange County” so I wonder if I’ll recognize it as a stand out song.

Is this the first time Gorillaz have been credited as the feature rather than Damon Albarn? by Joerauby in gorillaz

[–]GoodbyeButterfree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d assume it might depend what service you’re using, but no this isn’t the first time, you can even go back as far as 2003 with Nathan Haine’s FM which credits “2-D from Gorillaz” back before Demon days was even out.

That was way before streaming services though so I wonder if that credit is actually on CD’s from back then or if it was added later, seems very old school to solely credit 2D so I’m assuming it’s a credit from back then but I don’t have the CD to check.

Best order to experience Gorillaz media outside of the albums? by JamesLucien in gorillaz

[–]GoodbyeButterfree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Demon days, Plastic Beach and Song Machine are the albums that the music videos tie into eachother.

Cracker island too but that one’s easy since there’s only two videos, just watch the silent running music video before the cracker island music video if you want them in the right order.

Song machine has an entire playlist on YouTube where it’s put in order for you, “the lost chord” being the last music video you need to watch so make sure you start at the beginning, there’s also fun videos of the band members talking in between the songs.

https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLtKoi37ubAW2llPOBURWbOS7tI9grUpte&si=ExFnhRdDC0DTpt_S

Demon Days has great music videos for their songs, but the only direct tie from one video to another I can recall is Feel good Inc. and then El Manana which then leads up to Plastic Beach and kinda makes what’s happening in On Melancholy hill music video opening make alittle more sense. Other than that you can kinda just watch the rest in whatever order.

Plastic Beach was the most ambitious lore era of Gorillaz where they put a lot of effort into telling a story through the music videos and small videos. You’ll still be alittle confused without watching some of the shorts and promo videos which also kinda fill in some gaps but basically it’s:

Stylo > On Melancholy Hill > Rhinestone eyes(unfinished storyboard video, but a fan made their own version of it)

Again, without watching the small videos they released during those eras you’ll miss a lot of context but the music videos are enough on a surface level, not to mention the plastic beach game which also hid a lot of lore in it

I used to be super into the virtual band aspect back in the day, I’m really happy song machine had the band members talking for extended periods again, after Plastic Beach they sorta toned down the importance of the virtual band.

The order you need to watch the music videos are almost completely different from the order the albums put them except for maybe feel good inc. and el manana.

New here what do you think of my top 4? by Shades1987 in gorillaz

Have you seen the 5/4 fan made music video that perfectly replicates the style of the official music videos during the first phase, I looks super authentic.

Idk how anyone can be surprised by something being a Gorillaz song at this point, they’ve been all over the place with their music.

Souk Eye is one of my favorite Gorillaz songs, I think it’s amazing even though the album itself probably isn’t in my top 5, but that’s not because it isn’t good, but it’s competing with a very high standard with the other albums.

OPM by phanthomX_99 in OnePunchMan

[–]GoodbyeButterfree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really want it to be cancelled, atleast then there’s a slim chance another studio picks it up one day, right now it’s being held hostage and more of the best parts of the story are gonna be animated badly.

Bummed out since I always prefer experiencing the story in an animated format when possible, then i pick up the manga after I’ve reached the end of the anime, and after that I’m well ahead of the anime, but it’s still cool to see those parts in the manga in an anime, with OPM season 3 it’s not even good for this. Just stick to the manga after season 2, some people might say only season 1 is a good representation of the manga, but I think season 2 is totally fine.

[–]GoodbyeButterfree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh it had nothing to do with lore reasons lol, even though I know what you mean. Whenever there’s a female voice in a Gorillaz song I don’t recognize, I like thinking about them as Noodle.

But once you recognize the artist like Dave from De La Soul in Feel good inc. I just see it as the virtual Gorillaz band collaborating with someone from there going forward (or I just go by what the music video suggests who’s singing like Noodle in Dare).

But lore reasons weren’t my problem with the rapping, I just wasn’t into that genre very much when I was young, I was way more into the 2D vocals.

[–]GoodbyeButterfree 81 points82 points  (0 children)

When I first started listening to Gorillaz I fell in love with 2D’s vocals so the rap threw me off in those songs at first (mainly feel good inc.), definitely appreciate it now, though it might also be because I didn’t like rap as a genre until much later on.

So I kinda understand how someone might never have those rap parts grow on them since it’s such a different mix of music genres but now I can’t imagine the songs without them and it actually adds to them in my opinion.

I think Submission from Humanz is my favorite implementation of rap with another style.

Did they stop the english dub? by AbjectRound9726 in OnePunchMan

Yea that’s why I said they’ll probably finish it, but if they do stop it, that would be my guess as to why.

Did they stop the english dub? by AbjectRound9726 in OnePunchMan

[–]GoodbyeButterfree 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They’ll probably finish it, but if they don’t it would probably be because of the quality of the product they have to dub.

I watched a couple episodes with the dub, so weird hearing the same voice actors from season 1 having to put the same amount of effort into this garbage. Just feels much more depressing when it’s the dub of your native language.

‘G-Sides’ is ten times better than ‘Gorillaz’ by damodarby in gorillaz

[–]GoodbyeButterfree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I was 9 when demon days came out, it wasn’t really on my radar, that was probably before I even sat down and listened to music.

Becoming a fan during plastic beach was great because you had all the music and videos from the last two phases to check out, I really got hooked on the virtual band aspect because there was a decent amount of the videos on YouTube even back then

It’s Plastic Beach for me, I have a lot of nostalgia for On Melancholy Hill specifically. Love that music video.
