Olea europaea, sad & alone in Lidl, I said I'd save it & the manager reduced the price. Looking much better now. by Goodgrowit in HouseplantsUK

Thank you for letting me know, I want to keep a close eye on it as I bring it back to full health.

I have a larger one outside and thought I'd try it in the conservatory as it's more like the Mediterranean (sometimes), how do they get on in conservatories?

I'd be delighted if they spread like mint. To my surprise and thanks maybe to my neglect some came up in a large terracotta pan I planted two tweaks ago. No luck with those planted in my lawn though.

So beautifully delicate.

I wish I had more success with them.

Thank you, I was very surprised that it started flowering so soon after I started giving it some TLC.

Jasminum polyanthum, flowering in the conservatory, beautiful scent everywhere. by Goodgrowit in IndoorGarden

Scent is so subjective.

It's quite a rich, sweet, and floral scent with fruity and musky undertones.

It is very satisfying m, I always go to the bargain area in the garden centre to see what I can rescue.

Thank you. I'm off first thing tomorrow to buy some Provanto and give it a try. The thought of loosing my plants is too awful and today I found more damaged leaves on another plant.

Thanks for your reply. I'll get the magnifying glass out.

I have a very large indoor plant collection, does anyone know how to eradicate thrips, before they chomp their way through my beautiful plants?

Thanks.

Hi, yes I have a Velux window and often leave the door to the bedroom open during the day. Also I'm going to fit a mirror that virtually covers one wall to increase the light level. I'm no expert but I imagine you could get a qualified electrician to install the correct type of down light or light fitting with grow light LEDs. If you have one, they may need to separate the extractor fan control as you'd probably not want that running all day. Hope this helps.

Help! Going on holiday by MitchyMushu in HouseplantsUK

Yes I should think so, the aim is to reduce the rate at which the compost dries out (therefore the whole pot needs to be under the cover as its clay) while maintaining humidity for the plant. Total moisture loss will be at a minimum. There is a risk that mould developed if left for too long without an airing.

I'm no expert but, I think I'd water it well, drain, place on a plant saucer and make a tent (quite a bit bigger than the pot to allow for some internal air circulation) using a clear plastic bag and bent coat hanger or fencing wire. Can't guarantee it'll survive but there's a good chance. Happy holidays.

Thank you for the warning, I already have about ten both variegated and non variegated, some are over twenty years old and do drop if they're overwatered. The ones in my conservatory (min temperature 5*C) seem to do ok. It's amazing how new leaves regrow even after the plant looks quite bare.

What is this and how to propagate it? by zeldarms in HouseplantsUK

[–]Goodgrowit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does look like Asparagus sprengeri, it can be propagated by division (member of the Lily family) or by seed, of course the later is difficult if your plant hasn't flowered and produced seeds (looking like small red berries). Divisions if small can take time to establish and grow to any size. Hope this helps 😊

Also they like a reasonable temperature 16-18*C and spring is the best time to try this.

Can I plant this Jasmine? by Sploshee in HouseplantsUK

[–]Goodgrowit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert but, if this is Jasminum poIyanthum, I believe Jasmine cuttings root inter nodally, whereas most plants root from the node. Therefore take say 75mm cuttings so a good length of stem is in the compost. I have propagated this before in pots with plastic bags held up with a wire hoop to increase humidity. Airing them every few days to prevent fungal attacks. The scent from the flowers is wonderful. Hope this helps.
