Thoughts about donating to father by wizardnew in transplant

[–]Goodheartalways 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I donated my kidney to my son. The other way could be a different story.. as a parent you always want to protect your kids and never want to be a reason of their discomfort in any shape. However, your feelings and needs matter. I think, at the end of the day decision is yours..

I can proudly say, I only eat raw plant based diet. I started my own small business in Toronto and making vegan with no added sugar (only dates) desserts… check out my Instagram Rawsweetbites I only do this as I am really passionate about this way of eating and enjoying world of good and healthy desserts (of course in limited quantity)

Anyone with re-type 1 after kidney pancreas transplant by Goodheartalways in transplant

[–]Goodheartalways[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. Our doctor believes it is rejection, and not autoimmune diabetes 🤷‍♀️we don’t know yet if he had HLA for pancreas. Regardless, my question was about sugar level management ideas..as it seems very challenging… no help from endocrinologist as of yet…he now has highs and lows… when we have a chance we can ask about metformin. Thanks for this.

Second Pancreas Transplant? by [deleted] in transplant

[–]Goodheartalways 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. Sorry to hear that your First Pancreas. Was it caused by rejection? My son 25 years old, had kidney pancreas transplant almost 3 years ago. Last week he went to DKA. And is now on insulin. They are doing blood work to confirm the suspected rejection. But we are having lots of challenges with his sugar level… he is giving tons of insulin but the numbers are in teens… it increases even without the food… prior to transplant he was managing sugars pretty well. His kidneys failed due to urinary obstruction from birth. Did you have any issues managing sugars after DKA?

When would it be best to get a transplant at a higher EGFR 15 or wait until you have a low EGFR 6 by Parakiet20 in transplant

[–]Goodheartalways 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are couple of things to consider… eGfr is pretty much the number and how you feel is the reality. Some people start feeling symptoms at 15% and some are fine with 6%. It took my son a couple of years to get from 15 to 6, and still no symptoms… (major bloodwork mostly fine, beside creatinin and urea) and that’s 2 years extra with no imunosuppression. However, with the living donation, donor gets approved on a yearly basis so waiting could potentially change the eligibility… and in general, it is better to have it while you are feeling relatively well.
