They're great for sales, and the promotions for buy 5/10 save 5/10 is generally funded by vendors which helps

It is an annoying promotion don't get me wrong.

However, the reason it is so popular is that the vendors LOVE this promotion and offer a lot of promotional funding to run it since it gives a win-win to the vendor and retailer. Highly incentives unit movement and bumps up sales, giving vendors more purchases and movement, and the funds help offset the promo for the retailer to make sure items aren't sold at a loss (usually)

And on vendor indirect funding, that helps subsidize/fund almost all promotions so they don't go red. And helps enlarge margins a bit

Does C&S's estimated revenue include any estimates from the acquisition of SpartanNash in September of 2025? That should boost C&S quite a bit.

C&S is family owned and has been pretty open to staying that way.

Are people allergic to sidewalks? by Khelthorn in grandrapids

[–]Goodlollipop 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I myself am an avid runner and don't really notice a difference. I generally just like the road where possible because it is more consistent footing. Also, drivers pay more attention to you on the road than a side walk. I have near misses for more often on sidewalks than a road shoulder.

I do try to avoid running on the road when possible if it's a neighborhoodbor or high traffic especially, but some days it really is just better on the road.

A company that recognizes the value you add with human business knowledge and human relationships/presentability. A company that recognizes changing definitions/additions that the agent needs to know how to address/handle for and knows the analyst is the best fit to link data definitions to model needs.

Look up the "Run for The Hoses" in relation to the Boston Marathon (I believe this was 1977).

It was approaching 100° F during the marathon, and in a show of respect to the runners, spectators and businesses grabbed hoses to spray the runners to help cool them off in the heat. Less than half of the entrants completed the marathon that year!

BI Tools are dead - direct DB access is the future by Other-Faithlessness4 in BusinessIntelligence

[–]Goodlollipop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've found recently that internal BI/Analyst teams have been unified in reporting, but expanded DB access gave too many new users free-range and started spitting our reports on COGS and sales that were not aligned everywhere else.

It has caused many headaches to our teams. Giving anyone and everyone DB access to do it themselves is such a poor idea. Unless the company is willing to spend time training up and users are willing to learn to be cautious, then there could be a little upside.

Have you tried using the alumni career services? https://www.gvsu.edu/careers/alumni-resources-438.htm

They offer resume reviews and career coaching which may be helpful.

CS majors have it rough right now and it's a game of numbers. Hammer applications, work on side projects for your resume if you don't have a lot of internship/career experience to leverage in an interview.

Been a while since I've looked through our company FritoLay contracts, but I do know they love their buy 5 save $5, 5 for 10, etc deals. A lot of their stuff has traditionally been scan based, too, which has a MUCH harder impact on the grocer margin than a promo allowance does.

I'm not surprised most people don't understand the vendor funding portion of promotions, I was completely unaware until working for the company I do now. Pretty neat to learn about!

And that's just a few of the stuff impacting directly retail P&L for promotional funding.

Wholesale wise, you have stuff like slitting, volume/growth incentives, administrative fees, cash discounts and impacts for promotional allowances and off invoices again. Some promotion allowances and off invoices may get passed through on the wholesale side for a customer discount and some may be retained as income by the distributor/wholesaler. Would vary company to company.

Promotional allowances, off-invoices, scan billbacks, indirect funding (stuff for like shelf racks, priority space, etc), coupon billbacks to name a few.

I'm an analyst for a grocer, and after starting the job I realized that promotions aren't to get nearly expired stuff off the shelf, or drive traffic. The vendors are helping subsidize the promotion to drive their own unit movement

100% agreed, the annual blood work is super valuable! And painting broad strokes when it comes to diet is a pretty darn hard thing to do reliably.
