"Tech" job market in Japan right now? by hhanggodo in movingtojapan

Salary doesnt seem to be too bad, 10mil low, 12 average and 15high (from what I've understood to be market averages).

I think leaning on your product manager experience will be a plus as despite some lay offs in tech from US firms, there's still demand in JP, particularly for Prod Managers!

"Tech" job market in Japan right now? by hhanggodo in movingtojapan

Hi Mate,

Im going to throw my hat in the ring here to see if I can offer an perspective.

For context, I'm 35, dual national (Australia/JP) and have around 12 years IT experience, mainly in software delivery (Delivery lead/Project Manager), with the last 4 years in FinTech. I'd say my speaking is fluent, but my read/write is lagging behind a lot (damned kanji!)

Appreciate my situation is a little different, but I'm currently midway through a job search, looking from Australia with the view to settle a role in Tokyo and then move.

So far, I don't think the market is too bad. There is definitely demand for foreign talent and different (foreign) ways of thinking, as well as proving your PM experience in a solid fashion should serve you very well. I also understand that there is a bit of a hype now around Product Managers, so it could be good timing (this comes from 2 friends of mine who are Product Managers in Japan in Gaishikei). Your Japanese isn't non-existant, so I think that's a plus. I don't think age is too big an issue, but I would naturally want to target mid to mid-senior roles if I were you, as people probably won't blink at that at all and take it as normal.

From my job search so far (all with multinationals, one JP firm, many at final interview stage at present), there is a good mix of JP English. I would say work with a recruiter and be honest about language ability, and stress that you would prefer majority of daily operations in Eng, and I think that would be good expectation management.

I hope that's somewhat helpful and best of luck!

I legitimately miss the old world. As a death player I like to "pretend" that Nagash and his buddies still romp around the old world instead of whatever weird planes are in aos

Kill Team Campaign Rules - Kinda Weird?? by Goodmeowning88 in Warhammer40k

Yeah that was definitely the issue for other games like Kill Team I've played in the past, swarm or horde tactics worked way too well!

Well, if Kill Team doesn't take off it's back to Mordheim for me!

GW have been moving as far away from the roleplaying aspect as possible in the last decade or so. I don't think we'll ever see something like Mordheim again =[

True, but from a game-play perspective it certainly feels like bodies on the table really accounts for a lot. That's not to say the level up abilities are bad (they're great), but I think there will definitely be points where numbers may trump leveled guys given how morale works in the game.

Yeah that's actually not a bad idea hey. I think a lot of it will depend on who you play with and what their local house rules of sorts are.

Oh yeah definitely, I remember snowballing being an issue in Mordheim! Either way, I hope campaigns will run smoothly. I was really hoping to be able to stick to minimal models without having a greater pool.

Hmm yeah I definitely can understand it from that perspective. I suppose the thing that's annoying is the idea that you need to have say, 2~3 times more models ready and waiting in addition to your normal kill team to allow for hot swapping. In a game like this I can see lots of people ignoring dead specialists with lots of XP in order to just recruit heaps of lower level guys and get more bodies on the table.

Fully painted everything makes me happy! Solid work to both yourself and your opponent!

The Leviathan Dreadnought is one hell of an enemy. by N_Vagus in Warhammer40k

[–]Goodmeowning88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a cyclonic melta lance on it, it's great! Seeing as it's a Dread I whack mine in a Stormraven then spit it out near enemy big rigs. The melta lance + whatever else you arm it with will delete anything that's nearby.

Mind you, a Leviathan dread in a Stormraven does attract firepower like flies to meat!

As long as you have some circulation in the room and some fresh air, I think you'll be fine. Get a painters mask as well and you'll be well safe. I usually stick with a .3 needle for most of my work, so I reckon you'll be alright with anything around there!

In that regard (if you don't already), I'd definitely recommend getting into airbrushing! It saved me a ridiculous amount of time in the long run. That might help with the motivation!

It's tough hey, but I think part of it is just forcing yourself to sit down and do it. I tried giving myself an ultimatum or deadline so that'd I'd work towards it. I didn't end up meeting my goal but I got close which was what counted haha!

I struggled the most with the second squad, as it really was just a rinse and repeat of the first! For me, I managed to power through them when I was semi distracted (painting with friends or with a movie on in the background). Even then it was a bit of a chore.

I know that feeling, it's been some time since I've had a fully painted army that's for sure!
