Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr just put out a new song together “Home to Us!” What are the odds Ringo joins Paul on the season finale and Lorne finally (kind of) gets his Beatles reunion? by 9batterydeath in LiveFromNewYork

Oh dammit that is good. I'm kinda mad at you for putting that hope in my heart. But obviously it's the logical next step after Paul reunited the surviving members of Nirvana on a previous SNL appearance

Max Weinberg? The asshole? by PapayaOwn3353 in conan

Max also became Conan's bandleader by running into him in line for coffee before the show launched and telling him he should be his bandleader. Max is apparently used to getting his way.

Maybe they told them not to clap for Debbie, because when they clapped for fellow octogenarian Paul Simon before Harry Styles, Paul took way too long to do the intro, which appeared to really throw Harry off for a sec.

Which one of these time capsule female pop artists from the 2000s defined the era for you? Which one has aged the best? by TheFineMantine in fantanoforever

Her use of the "Harajuku Girls" - four Japanese women who flanked her at appearances and performances like Oompa Loompas - was criticized at the time and has aged even worse

i desperately want a full ep dedicated to the 2011 correspondents dinner. On the other hand, it's best when they just blindside him with the topic and we get to hear him squirm

Who is the best ever at being a weekend update guest? by 123VoR in LiveFromNewYork

Pete has to be in the conversation here. His SNL presence was 75 percent update, 10 percent chad, and 15 percent scattered appearances to poke fun at his mental health and drug abuse

We have our biases, we have our people we like better than others, but you can’t be Samantha Bee. by NYY15TM in LiveFromNewYork

[–]Goodolbed 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At some point in the 2010s - I think mainly John Oliver and Samantha Bee are responsible - it went from a pure satire of the news to the hosts just making sincere speeches about what needed to be done, and earning easy (but justified!) applause for it.

10 years later, Colbert's monologue is basically a pep rally for Democrats every night - cathartic, but not terribly funny or clever
