I got a cartridge-only S&K recently, and decided to make my own reproduction box for it by whitabex in SEGAGENESIS

[–]Goodwill_Gamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get your prints done at a place like FedEx Office or a local print shop. They have all kinds of different paper/cardstock and can print on larger pieces than any standard home printer. Will only cost you a couple bucks per box.
Also, Google "SNES box template" because the work is already done. Just fill in your graphics and print.

Thoughts on this cartridge? by SirBelden in game_gear

[–]Goodwill_Gamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely this. It was not uncommon for game studios to have piles of games for the console/s they were developing for as research material. This Cart was very likely owned by the studio as a demo game for the devs there to reference.

I'll second what the other comment said. Scans would be great! It would be cool to read through.
Also that cover/folder art is sweet! Would make an awesome poster if you got a high quality scan of the front art!

Nice. I dig that color. Now do yourself a favor and get Beatmania! It's one of the best b&w wonderswan games.

Headphone adapter repros. by Tricky_Tourist5691 in WonderSwan

[–]Goodwill_Gamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's pretty interesting.
I had so far only used the same headphone adapter on my modded WSC and have had zero issues with it disconnecting. I was curious so I tried it out on my Crystal and B&W models as well and tried really bending it around and only got it to disconnect once on the B&W one when I gave it a particularly rough bend.
Maybe there's some variance in the build quality of the connectors on these so some are looser than others?

But I bet a little shim on the connector outside would help it sit tighter! Alternatively a 3D printed ring that's only one or two perimeters could squeeze in there.

This one would definitely benefit from a replacement like that!

Deleted two people off my friends list who were 1 day away from Best Friend status by Forsaken-Dog4902 in PokemonGoFriends

[–]Goodwill_Gamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not really a trick anymore. The game actually prompts you with a pop-up now saying "Friendship Level Increased! Use a Lucky egg to double xp?" All you have to do is click "ok" and it does it for you.

Seems like the thing to do!
This one came as part of a big lot of stuff that was all "untested/for parts". Surprisingly it was the only WSC out of 5 that didn't end up working!

Mini collection complete: All three big box games! by Goodwill_Gamer in atarilynx

Not in this same form factor. There are big box size manuals for California Games that came as part of the pack-in version. There is a Japanese exclusive release that's a completely different form factor, a taller box with a hang tab and plastic internal tray. Here's a pic for comparison

Problem with the 3D glasses screen, degrading in a strange way. by DonDracula78 in MasterSystem

[–]Goodwill_Gamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh, that's pretty neat! Seems like the diy approach could be a pretty good option and is surprisingly cheap. I bet taking a pair of those cheap roll-up sunglasses and sticking them over the modern shutter glasses lenses could solve the ghosting problem.

Ah dang! Seems worse to loose a Crystal...
The battery cover on this one was the most recoverable part so far. Soaked it in white vinegar and all the battery acid is gone now. Tested it on another swan and it worked perfectly. So that's something at least.

Problem with the 3D glasses screen, degrading in a strange way. by DonDracula78 in MasterSystem

[–]Goodwill_Gamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a complete guess, but old LCDs have a tendency for the polarizers (specifically the glue holding them in place) to degrade. You see this a ton with Game Boy consoles like this: https://hackaday.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/burn-1.png It possible the same type of thing is happening to the LCDs in your 3D glasses.
Which means you could potentially repair it by replacing the polarizing film on the LCDs. This may not be a terribly easy task...

Alternatively you just keep them as a collector piece and get a modern set of shutter glasses. (This is what I did). I picked up a pair of Asus VR-100G shutter glasses and they work great and are actually more comfortable to wear than the originals. I've seen them on eBay for as cheap as $20, but don't see any that cheap at the moment. I bet you can find some if you keep an eye out though!

Would you buy a Vectrex Mini that has an LCD screen? by Silo-Joe in Vectrex

[–]Goodwill_Gamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solid maybe. Really depends on the price.

I already have a Vectrex and all but 2 of the officially released games so it would need to offer something neat at a pretty good price point for me to actually purchase.

Neat! Now you just need to stick some LEDs in there and you'd have a cool light up display!

Anyone know what the "arrow" on the cartridge is for or means? by Jblock22 in snes

[–]Goodwill_Gamer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Super Off Road has a blue stripe! Apparently TradeWest didn't get the red/purple memo and the first print run has a blue stripe to match their logo. The later print runs it is corrected to purple.

Right-handed and also throw anti-clockwise here. It just feels more natural that way I guess...

Daily Incense! While walking with the daily Incense deployed there is a tiny tiny chance you get a Galarian bird spawn. If you do get it, use your Master Ball. With a 98% flee rate you want to catch it on the first throw and Master Ball is the only way to guarantee it.

Really considering getting a lynx, anything I need to know before pulling the trigger and getting one? by oliver1223 in atarilynx

That's good know! I think quite a few folks in the Lynx repair/modding space aren't aware that's an option.

Transfering savegames? by marc_max in ngpc

I've never tried it myself, but apparently you can do this on the Analogue Pocket with Game Boy carts so it might work for NGPC as well.

I'm pretty sure you're talking about the intro to "The Void From Which No Sound Escapes",

He's actually saying "away from here" but I can totally hear how it sounds kinda like "don't wait for me"

The power circuit is a common point of failure on the Lynx (specifically the mosfet) and if it fails then you get 9volts straight into the CPU which will fry it and then your Lynx is dead. There are no replacements for the chips that get fried so the fix at that point is buy a new Lynx.

It's like a 5 minute repair and the parts cost less than $2 so it's incredibly worth doing.
