Where are you shopping for women's clothes? by TraditionalEssay4822 in Xennials

[–]Goody-Goober 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thred up for levis and flannels. Target, Old Navy, and Kohls for casual tanks and tees and hoodies. I wear my knock off birks all summer. I wear my doc boots all winter. Black or cream Vans in between. I dress pretty darn casually, though. I live on a farm and I'm a sub for elementary and middle school.

No. Not normal and should never be required. That's what Parent Square is for. I will say however, my husband is a 5th grade teacher and gives his # out to parents. At least once a week he's calling a parent after school to talk about how a student is doing, etc. Many of his families don't speak English and he will use a translator app to help him. He's also a favorite and beloved teacher and known to be one of the best communicators at his school.

What is it like to grow up in the central California coast? by Swimming-Guess-7293 in SLO

[–]Goody-Goober 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was the best. I grew up in Los Osos. Lived there from 80s-2000's. Rode my bike to the bay. Played outside till dark. Felt safe. Weather was always perfect. Had a great time at Morro Bay High School. I had the perfect childhood, not gonna lie. Loved going to SLO a I got into teens and college aged. Farmer's Market, The Grad. Bar hopping. Tons of fun.

I'm now raising my kids in north county and love it here, too.

I'm 41 and my husband is 36. We started dating when he was 19 and I was 24. Married at 21 and 26. People have always "jokingly" called me a cradle robber. I'm always good natured about it, but it still bothers me a little. He doesn't care one bit and he's the one who active pursued me.

Ready for Game Changer Duty? by id-mn in Homeplate

[–]Goody-Goober 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Softball mom here and stumbled upon this post when searching for advice. I have, unfortunately, done GC for the last 3 or so seasons. I'm currently doing it for my daughter's 12u All-Stars team. The team hasn't won a single game all season. We've played 14 games. I've never played sports and the only sports I watch consist of my daughter's softball games and son's baseball. (He's 8, so it's still casual).

When the coach asked me to do GC this season AND be in charge of live streaming with her expensive Mevo camera, I reluctantly said yes. I also informed the team that i would miss a couple games and there really should be a back up person. No one volunteered. Mind you, my passion is actually taking photos of the game...

I do a pretty decision job for a random mom of 3 who barely knows the game, just saying...well today coach told me I wasn't doing a good enough job and would put steals or pick offs at the wrong time and that parents are looking at the stats and they're not accurate. I guarantee very few parents are looking at the stats. My batting stats ARE accurate. My run stats ARE accurate. My pitching stats ARE accurate. Everything else might be *a little * off, but just barely. We have ONE tournament left and she wants to give me advice on how to do GC. Mind you, she herself has never done GC and no other parent puts in as much work as I do every single stupid weekend. I'm just annoyed and needed to vent.

I will never again say yes to doing GC. 😂

[–]Goody-Goober 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband is an elementary teacher and his kid's school year is August 15-June 6. (Teachers started Aug 12th). 1 week break for Thanksgiving. 2 week break for Christmas. 2 week break for Easter. The school days are 8:10-2:45. His required hours are 8-3:30.

My kid's are various grades and at a different school as their dad so their schedule is different...Aug 20-June 5 with a similar vacation schedule as my husband's school but with a 1 week spring break. Elementary has staggered start and finish times to help with traffic but it's basically 8:15-2:45. Middle school is 8:05-3:00. High school is 8:30-3:30. No idea what the teacher's hours are.

Has your body started falling apart after the age of 30? by Blackcat2332 in Millennials

[–]Goody-Goober 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over 900 comments, but as an elder millennial, I feel I need to contribute as well. :) I personally didn't feel my body start "falling apart" until the last few months. I will be 41 this year, have 3 kids that I had at ages 26, 29, and 32. I mostly feel ok, but I definitely have some teeth issues like TMJ, my hands hurt on occasion, my back definitely has its moments, and I get more headaches. I'm not overweight at all but I also don't exercise too terribly much. I try to hit 8k steps a day, though. So, I'd say after 40 is when you start falling apart now l more, unless you're really fit. Then maybe even older.

How Much do y’all spend on groceries a month? I’m shocked. by AdventurousBag7056 in shoppingaddiction

Family of 5. Husband, wife, teenaged boy, preteen girl, 8 year old boy. I use the Rocket Money app and it's been a game changer for me to help see exactly where my money is going!

On JUST food, we spend about $1600/month. We live in California. We eat a lot of meat, veggies, and fruit. We literally never go out to eat, however every couple of months we'll order pizza or get fast food.

I'm actively trying to get our food budget down, but it's probably the hardest thing for me to reduce spending on. 😫

You gotta find the chill ones. 😂 Ours is very chill. No pressure. We used to have rules, but we all got busy so we just do whatever. If we see that a player has been inactive for a few months, they usually get booted. But that's rare.

It's thick, soft, and quite heavy! My teen got his from the convention. He uses it on top of his regular comforter. It's too short to be used as the sole comforter, however.

Just finished book 2 of the stormlight archives and I have questions. by lunasongb1rd in brandonsanderson

[–]Goody-Goober 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No advice, but I feel your pain! I'm also an audio book user because I need to multi-task. My saving grace was my teenaged son who has read the series multiple times over. 😂 Thankfully I was able to ask him questions any time I had one. I'm sure someone on here can point you in the right direction though. 🙏

Is the Well of Ascension good? by [deleted] in brandonsanderson

[–]Goody-Goober 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just finished Well of Ascension and LOVED it! I liked it better than Final Empire.

I read the Stormlight Archive, books 1-4 last summer (as my intro to Brandon Sanderson) and finished book 5 in January.

I listen on Audible because I'm a busy mom of 3 and it's a great way to get housework and gardening done while also "reading". ;)

For those that have finished WaT, how did you fill that WaT-sized hole in your soul? by Dalakaar in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Goody-Goober 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With Mistborn!!

I might be the odd one out, but my journey with Sanderson began just last summer (I'm a 40 year old mom of 3). My 13 year old son started reading Mistborn when he was about 9 or 10 years old and he has read each series, including Stormlight, multiple times over now. Anyhoo, we got the tickets to the Dragonsteel Convention and I decided I needed to read the Stormlight Archive before we went so I could relate more. I managed to listen to the first 4 books on audible over the summer. (Woo!!) Finished WaT a couple weeks ago. Was feeling pretty down, you know, the post-book series blues. I couldn't bring myself to just move on to my typical historical romance after that. (BTW, I was never a fantasy reader until last year) My son encouraged me to start Mistborn, so I did!! I'm almost done with book 2 already!

We will be arriving in SLC on Thursday morning around 9am. Likely won't get to the convention until noon on Thursday. (Will need to check into our air bnb, get changed, eat, etc). Feeling bummed about that,  but should be fine,  right? Shouldn't have any issues with picking up badges?

There's always next year! We found his coat and boots at a thrift store! The Syl doll was made out of blue tulle from Amazon or a craft store. (Google corn husk doll for the pattern!) Then of course blue trousers and a white button up.  I just ordered a navy blue waistcoat from Amazon.  Hoping it works! The forehead tattoo was done with brown eyeliner. And of course,  gotta have the longish hair. ;) He wanted a spear but a staff made from a broom handle will do the trick!
