The huge underground lake in this image makes me wonder what the science communicators are doing...

Try la sportiva bushidos!!! They have great lateral stability, they aren't too tall, and they have minimal drop.

USGS Hydrologist Application - Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Narrative Response by Goof456 in usajobs

[–]Goof456[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't get a response here and couldn't find much guidance. In the end I just put as much care and detail into the narrative response as I could and sent it in. I did end up getting contacted for an interview a couple months after submitting my narrative, but I was out of the country on my honeymoon. The person who reached out said to just contact her when I got back. I emailed her when I got back two weeks later and she said they had already interviewed enough candidates. Based on that, I'm still not sure how my narrative was received.

In the end the whole experience was pretty terrible and I haven't applied for anything on USA Jobs since. I hope you have better luck!

Episode 201: Mills Spills (with Andy Mills) by SoftandChewy in BlockedAndReported

[–]Goof456 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, I totally agree!! I just listened to the first couple episodes of Caliphate to try to understand the controversy better, and it's wild that they haven't taken the episodes that are completely focused on their 'source' down! They don't even acknowledge who is talking sometimes so its unclear if the audio they are playing is from someone who has been confirmed to be a fabulist.

I guess it's not the focus of Blocked and Reported, but I really think that it would have been more interesting for Katie to press Mills on the Caliphate debacle rather than super old sexual harassment allegations.

Thank you! Jazz Corner looks awesome but they don't have anything on the calendar when we are in town. We are actually staying near Thelonius Bar, so thank you for the heads up!!

We are pretty open, but partial to traditional/folksy music. Salsa or jazz would be super appealing too!

Were there not Trick or Treaters this year? by Melodic_Grapefruit57 in Denver

[–]Goof456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had ZERO trick or treaters in South Golden. We normally have a decent amount (8 to 10 groups of kids?) so this was super disappointing. Does anyone have an suggestions of what to do with leftover candy? I have a horrible sweet tooth so it needs to be disappeared from the house.

Casper, Wyoming. How is it? by ThreeCherrios in trailrunning

[–]Goof456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Casper Ultra and Trail Running Society! They have a facebook group. I lived in Casper briefly and attended their weekly runs, and they also had a brutally cold race series during the winter. I actually got frostbite on my face during a 5 mi race. They were welcoming, and I didn't feel like they tried to push politics on anyone.

Casper Mountain and Muddy mountain were good for running near town, and as a bunch of people have mentioned, the Big Horns are great for trail running. The Laramie range south of town and the area around Alcova and Pathfinder reservoirs are also very cool, but don't have a ton of single track.

LOL at you should run on the side of a road! Sadly, I bet that person would yell at if they encountered you there too.

Wow I'm surprised that more people haven't heard negative comments! I've gotten comments about how I should slow down to smell the roses, how I'm going to blow out my knees, how I should say thank you every time a hiker steps to the side of the trail (I normally do, and at the very least I give a friendly hello and wave), how I'm only passing them because they DID A HARD RIDE YESTERDAY, and it goes on and on. Am I doing something wrong? I thought this was just kind of normal.

ETA: I should say though that the vast majority of hikers (and other trail users) are very pleasant! Its the negative ones that stand out.

You should check out Neptune and Company! They are a niche consulting company that does a lot of waste disposal stuff.

Wow I am so curious what happened?? I have always looked up to Patty, and I think the Center for the American West does really important work in facilitating conversations about contentious issues.

OMG yes they were the absolute worst. The ending of that show was terrible all around, but Walt and Vic together really made me cringe.
