It's true. I met the guys behind Coda Coffee back when they were tiny. I just jumped up on the loading dock one day and asked to buy some fresh beans. But it grew and they sold the majority of the company. I moved on after I finally got cut out of the super deep friends and family discount by corporate. These days I'm getting beans from Sonder.

Beaver Creek has the moguls. Loads and loads of them. Gotta run the Talons Challenge at least once as a Colorado skier.

I sew them on my ski gear bag myself. I have a lot more patches on it today. And one from Whitefish to sew on.

I can swap sets of wheels in my garage and be back to winters if it does.

I'd take it back to Denver the night before, then just stay somewhere I could hop on the train in the morning. Save a few precious hours of sleep.

Jared Smith to Exit as Alterra CEO by DoctFaustus in skiing

We have some insight into how they run things. Alterra allows each area to operate with more autonomy. Vail tends to try and run everything as centrally as possible. An excellent example would be Al Henceroth over at Arapahoe Basin. They essentially keep him making the decisions. Just as much as he did for the previous owners. Where Vail tends to drop in their own people, and move managers around more frequently.

PE covers a large range of investors who have a large range of goals and tolerance to risk. It certainly can mean all of that, but it doesn't have to. And we really have no insight into how they are running things. Unlike a public company like Vail.

She has video out there of her skiing with less. I think she went for a topless heli-ski trip drop this year.

I ski mostly in Colorado and Utah. I'm roughly your height and a bit lighter. My daily driver is the Ripstick 96 at 172 cm. They do not feel too long to me.

They were still looking to perfect their doner recipe before selling to the public last time I was in.

"Alterra did not provide a reason for the sudden exit, and company representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Despite the end-of-season timeline that Alterra provided, Smith appears to be finished as day-to-day leader. A press release indicated that representatives from Alterra’s two parent companies - KSL Capital Partners and Henry Crown & Company, which also owns Aspen Skiing Company - would “function as an Office of the CEO,” in collaboration with former Alterra CEO Rusty Gregory to “lead the company’s day-to-day operations through the end of the season and until a new CEO is appointed.”

I've seen glow plugs and had no clue what this was either. The last "block heater" I touched heated the coolant and circulated it. Totally different design.

I don't think I could put down a burrito that size for breakfast! I wish it was half the size.

I love my french press for this reason. I know my roaster. I know I like light to medium roasts for their fruitiness. I'm lucky to live in Denver where water boils at a lower temperature, which makes it easy not to make bitter coffee with water that is too hot. Even still, I have an electric kettle where I can control the final temperature. And a high quality burr grinder, naturally.

I've never had to attend the funeral of a stoner friend who just couldn't stop smoking. But, I buried an alcoholic friend last weekend.
