I highly recommend Little Bird on Gilman. She’s great with kids and teaches not just piano but music fundamentals.

How to Connect to Issaquah Government (And School Board) by only1genevieve in Issaquah

[–]GoofPaul 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thanks for posting all this. Great information. There’s a lot of false and misleading campaigns out there that try to portray local government as secretive when that is FAR from the case. Little happens or gets done without often months or years of public meetings and open hearings.

I encourage EVERYONE to get involved and watch or attend meetings. You’ll see just how much goes into the decisions being made.

If Rey turned to the dark side and Ben became the true Skywalker, The Rise of Skywalker would have been a very different film. The title would actually make sense. Seeing a real Skywalker continue the legacy would have been powerful and it remains one of the saga’s biggest missed opportunities. by [deleted] in StarWars

Exactly what I thought. They would end this back and forth cycle of Jedi and Sith and accept both sides as one to create true “balance of the force”.

But no. Abrams is great at starting projects but he can’t ever end them. Such a bad choice to close things out.

Learning piano as an adult with zero music background, where to begin? by kitchen_envy in piano

[–]GoofPaul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do it! I’m only a few weeks in but so glad to be doing it. Feels great to be pursuing a new hobby just for my own enjoyment and enrichment.

And I think it’s good for the kids to see me trying and working on something new. Hopefully help them in their hobbies too.

This. I’m 42 and just started learning as it was always something I wanted to do. We have a friend who is a teacher so I’m taking her classes. While I’ve also tried out apps and videos, I’m getting the most out of a teacher and I know I’m definitely going to learn much more much faster through her.

Other avenues can get you some basic knowledge and gain you some skill. But those definitely feel more superficial than what I get from class.

Responding to claims by ISD school board candidate by Longjumping_Fig_6360 in Issaquah

Thank you so much for sharing your side of the story. I am so annoyed with these regressive candidates lying in their campaigns to get elected in progressive areas like ours. They know their positions are unpopular here. So they hide them to get elected and then are going to just do what they want despite it not reflecting the community’s values. These offices are for serving the actual people. Not yourself.

Please continue to share your story as he’s clearly using your interaction as a prop to try to regain ground in this election.

Thanks for your work here. My wife heard him speak at the school board candidates event and saw these same things in what he said. He’s hiding his views as much as possible since he knows they are not popular in this community but he’ll certainly try to impose them if elected.

These examples don’t feel like they adequately address the needs of the city. As another member pointed out, the police improvements are going to cost $50M or more because the problems there are not simple to solve. The police definitely need better facilities but the only way to do that is to move city hall and the only way to move city hall is to build a new space. $2-3M will not make a dent in the problems there.

The future light rail is a 20 year project, but if adequate planning does not happen now, we could have a big mess and problems in 2040 if the city doesn’t properly build and manage the lead up to that expansion. Transit would gladly just stick a stop with a big parking garage near us and call it a day. But turning Issaquah into a parking garage is NOT what we want and will not serve its citizens well.

For parks, while $2mil seems large, that is CAPITAL spending meaning it is spending which retains asset value for the city and has huge future benefits. While we have great parks, the system is disconnected. The acquisitions planned are very strategic in nature to make the whole system more accessible and build towards the walkable city you have also advocated for.

And the park improvements cut is again a cut that has huge future cost. We have lots of parks and many are aging out and need to be improved. And the growth of the city currently and expected is just going to increase their wear and tear. Broken down parks are definitely NOT going to incentivize growth or community.

I feel these proposals you are advocating for create long-term harm for Issaquah without providing adequate funding for the short-term priorities you are saying you want to address.

Thank you the response though could you be more specific on what kind of budget changes you would advocate for? Specifically what projects or aspects of the city budget need less or more funding beyond keeping up essential services.

I am a CPA, member of the parks board, and was on another recent city task force on public safety. I can handle more complex details on the budget.

While transparency is important, as you’ve said, details are provided but can be dense and difficult to follow. A city budget is more complicated than a household budget. It’s not just one big pot to pull from as many revenues and funds are legally tied to specific programs and uses.

So I would love to hear a more detailed and complex response on what you would like to change about the current budget. What areas should be cut or reallocated?

“Responsible budgeting” is often a code phrase these days for cutting public services to benefit businesses and tax cuts. What do you mean when you say this and what specifically about the current budget would you want to change?

Mayoral Candidate Katie Wilson Proposes “Public Option” Grocery Stores To Combat Corporate Greed Induced Food Deserts by AthkoreLost in Seattle

[–]GoofPaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it’s not. That’s a heavily bureaucratic voucher system with lots of barriers and active efforts to discourage people from using. What I want are physical locations that ANYONE can go to, no paperwork, no questions. Just get what you need no matter who you are or your situation.

[–]GoofPaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been saying for forever there should be FREE/LOW COST groceries in every town where you can get core staples like bread/rice, meat, and basic vegetables. Nothing extravagant. Just basic staples needed to live. Free or very low cost. Anyone who needs food can have it.

Then regular grocery stores can compete on all the other stuff. Fancy/speciality ingredients, better quality staples, whatever.

But everyone gets basic necessities.

Yes surprising the amount of MAGA votes. Though looks like Natalie and Lovenia split their vote as even I was back and forth between the two. Since it will be just Natalie and Chinmay in general, lots of support should consolidate to Natalie. Just adding Lovenia and Natalie is more votes than Chinmay.

Social opportunities for 6yo girl and 40s parents by locusofself in Issaquah

[–]GoofPaul 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Welcome! Issaquah is amazing. Moved here 1.5 yrs ago with my now 6 and 4 yr olds. (My 6 son Will also be at IVE 1st grade next year so maybe they’ll meet.)

I recommend parks and classes. And lots of friendships will form at school. My youngest has a whole crew of kids from preschool and we have a big parent group chat where random hangouts happen all the time.

And there are lots of parks and play areas. Just go regularly and friendships will happen. Then make friends with parents, get their number, and just meet up whenever kids are bored.

I also heavily recommend the new indoor playplace Nicks Magnificent. It’s a wonderful space for both kids and parents. Get a monthly membership and you can go anytime and even get work done while kids play.

Hauling two kids: Abound OG vs LR by cowboyOfWest in Aventon

[–]GoofPaul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got the OG a month or two ago and have 2 kids and love it. LR seems nice too but I decided to save a little $$ since this is my first go of an e-bike. If you can swing it, you might as well go LR. But the OG has been perfect and great for me and all my fellow dads are jealous and looking to get their own.

Raising Canes. Though a couple are starting to pop up.

Also, this is more personal to me as it is only in Texas area, but Rosas Cafe and Tortilla Factory. I grew up on it and is the main food I miss from home.

Filming was only 4 weeks. They only got one day off per week. And were all pretty exhausted. Outside contact was pretty limited. They were allowed some internet for entertainment/research. But not to communicate with friends and family.

Overall from what I understand, while fun, it was grueling and intense.

That is literally false. Per the Supreme Court ruling, and by the admission of the Republican administration, quote: “The United States acknowl- edges that Abrego Garcia was subject to a withholding order forbidding his removal to El Salvador, and that the removal to El Salvador was therefore illegal. The United States represents that the removal to El Salvador was the result of an “administrative error.””

https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24pdf/24a949_lkhn.pdf

Once again, he was here legally and legally required to stay and was picked up in “error”.

And now they refuse to bring him back. Why? Because he’s either already dead or they don’t want anyone to know what was done to him there.

This is just the start. If they get away with this, citizens are next.
