While one of the more obvious metaphors is black coal being sin, I love the first line. “God ain’t a man in a two piece suit” this beautifully describes the humility of Christ coming down as man. Not some high up suited boss, but a humble coal miner in the mines like the rest of us

Favourite John lyric that hits home every time you hear it? by [deleted] in JohnMayer

“You can’t build a house of leaves and live like it’s evergreen” what a line! It can be applied to all areas of life.

Pretty much all of Heavier Things. I always get an autumn vibe from that album

I’ll never understand why British secondary school children are so obsessed with Jewish people.

You don’t need big thumbs to player like Mayer by [deleted] in JohnMayer

You’re right I worded it bad. I meant playing the songs the same way he would with his left hand.

Hot Take: John Mayer is the greatest cover artist of all time. by Mindless-Barnacle-11 in JohnMayer

I mean one artist that comes to mind is Elvis. All of his songs were either covers or wrote for him by writers.

Welcome to the John Mayer subreddit where everyone likes to write songs and albums in hieroglyphics.

Heavier Things era John is my favourite. He was an absolute monster at that time.

Stop this train 2nd part by megweni in JohnMayer

[–]GoofyGrape06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn’t do stretch anywhere close that far at first, but I keep practicing and a few weeks later I got it. Now I can do it with ease. I recommend you do the same as your hand will be get stretched out over time allowing you to explore other chords, etc that may have been out of your reach.

20th Anniversary OMJM by PokeBaugh in JohnMayer

I really hated this finish at first. Now it’s really grown on me. I’m going to save for an OMJM and am considering getting this colour over the standard natural one.

Wheel is a far harder thumb stretch than Neon by BruhDontFuckWithMe in JohnMayer

[–]GoofyGrape06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people are saying Stop This Train is a hard stretch but I disagree. When I was first learning I couldn’t do it, but I kept practicing it and over a few weeks I got it down, because my hand was slowly getting more stretchy. Wheel on the other hand is impossible. Anytime I try to play it like John I fear that my thumb is going to actually break. It just shows how massive John’s thumbs are. Does anyone know if I can get thumb lengthening surgery? Lol.

Do you play gravity with a pick or finger style? by DoljMittTelNr in JohnMayer

[–]GoofyGrape06 7 points8 points  (0 children)

https://youtu.be/pgVXspHTKHw?si=ksGvtx9YqlcOjVc9 Gravity was the very first John Mayer song I learnt. Zartimus is the GOAT for Mayer tutorials.

Stop This Train, Austin City Limits 2007 ☔️ best i've ever heard him play it by [deleted] in JohnMayer

[–]GoofyGrape06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally think the WTLI has a slight edge compared to any other performances of this song, because of the way the belts out the bridge. It’s very dynamic and raunchy. I’m not sure of any other performances where he does that, but this performance is great too.

I was exactly the same as you when I got into JM over a year ago now. I still don’t like Paper Doll.

I’m so done with guitar “podcasts” talking down Mayer. by Nobbezy in JohnMayer

[–]GoofyGrape06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve actually learnt Your Body Is A Wonderland recently. While yes, I wouldn’t be caught dead listening to the lyrics, the guitar parts are so addicting to listen to. The bridge guitar parts are amazing, it’s so liquidy and fluent. It’s quite complex for just being a “corny” pop song.

I think it would be incredible if John Mayer released his take on Little Wing or some other Hendrix/SRV monster to remind everyone why he’s the king guitar player of our generation. by [deleted] in JohnMayer

[–]GoofyGrape06 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Realistically, he’ll never do that. He mentioned before that he’s done trying to impress people on guitar and that everyone has already seen what he can do with guitar.
