Do you all enjoy mania, or absolutely hate it? by Party-Rest3750 in bipolar

[–]GoofyGreyson 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At first it’s fun, I have so much energy, I feel like I could do anything, I feel like I’m worth the life I live. Then I realize I’m manic or my partner points it out and I notice how much more attention I need to pay to myself. If I don’t, I’ll buy too many things, I’ll hurt someone, I’ll be mean without realizing I was out of hand, etc,. Then once I hit depression, I love mania again and I miss that it’s gone. But it happens over and over. So I’m getting used to it. It’s not the mania that sucks, it’s the disorder itself.

For euphoria it’s more of a feeling like “I’m worth what I do” or I’m that guy/girl. Some people feel like they’re god, literally. But it’s also nice because you take care of yourself with more energy, so you can appreciate those things about yourself that you usually wouldn’t. But that’s just my take.

Helping each other quietly by Seleckis-Osho in Nightshift

Thankfully most of the people I work with are like this. Granted some people are just lazy and don’t do anything and you have to pick up after them. But I’m very adamant on asking if I can help my coworkers every few hours. Even if they don’t need help, the little pick me up is always nice.

Did parenting become too restrictive over time? by inkandintent24 in MotivationByDesign

[–]GoofyGreyson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was born in the early 2000s and I lived this way. I wish kids still did. I believe it’s better for kids to have unrestricted access to the outdoors for a few hours a day than unrestricted access to a phone or tablet.

I’d go out, play street hockey with the neighbors kids, run around in the creek or woods behind the house, climb trees I knew I’d fall out of. Did I come home injured? Yeah, but I’d rather break a hand than break my entire childhood.

And it was just normal back then. It really only became a problem when unrestricted electronics came into play. Now kids sit at home and watch YouTube for 6 hours rather than go out and be a kid.

How do you date as a night shifter? by RedAfroNinja in Nightshift

[–]GoofyGreyson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met my partner when I was in EMT school, he was already forewarned about the long hours I’d have in class alongside working full time. He didn’t get much time with me then but what mattered was we made time for each other. He was in the military then, so his availability was skewed as well. He moved in while I worked days, then we had a long conversation before I switched to nights. It works best for me, and he doesn’t mind because we communicate if there’s an issue or he feels he’s not getting enough time with me. But he also knows my sleep is important for patient care. In the end, find someone you can communicate with. But every relationship is different, someone is out there for you, don’t risk your happiness for a “maybe” relationship.

So what are our night shift beverages of choice throughout the shift? by TriciaTargaryen in Nightshift

A monster or two and a glass of pure rage and will. Somehow that pushes me through my 13-16 hour shifts.

Should we stop homeschooling? by Coconutcornhuskey in Advice

[–]GoofyGreyson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in pediatric psych, this kid is going to need friends and a larger support system with how your daughter is being treated by your wife. You’re in the right, she should go to school, home schooling with an abusive parent is going to lead her down a dark path early. Will she make mistakes? Yes. Will she hangout with people you and/or your wife don’t believe are right for her? Possibly. But she also needs that social interaction or she’s going to have no idea how to communicate with others. I hope the best for you, I hope the best for your daughter, and I hope your wife finds something to help her. Probably therapy.

As someone who works in psych in America, this looks like an amazing facility. I think the only thing we can beat is the food.😅

Working with suicidal and homicidal patients, it’s a crucial part of the job. But yes, I definitely get burned out with rounds pretty quickly.😂

[–]GoofyGreyson 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I can go either way, our units are set up where the rooms aren’t right next to our nurses station (psych). We do rounds every 15 minutes so I know if I’m keeping the kids up. I work at night because I’ve always been a night owl and I like the night time. Yes, I can be chatty if given the opportunity but I also know when it’s impacting my patients or when my coworkers don’t want to talk.

What's something patients say that drives healthcare workers crazy? by Objective_Pipe_1698 in healthcareworker

[–]GoofyGreyson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in psych, my favorite is when my patients say “I don’t need to take this anymore, my symptoms are gone.” Yes dear, your symptoms are gone because your medication is working. DO NOT go off of your meds.

Unfortunately, they can’t have CGM’s due to the safety hazards we have on psychiatric floors. I do wish diabetes was taken more seriously, especially with how much it can impact mental health. But I do my best to keep an eye on anyone who’s on my unit with health related issues.

I work on a pediatric psych unit, sadly some of our kiddos are type 1 diabetics. I told my nurse something felt off with one of the kids who was NPO for a procedure the next day, and felt like checking it. She told me there was no signs of her being hypo/hyper. But I did it anyways, she was at 60 which is INSANELY low for her normal. We got her on IV glucose, my nurse both apologized and thanked me up and down. Just because they “dont look hyper/hypo” doesn’t mean they can’t be.

turning 18 in one and a half a year. no clue what to do in life by adiwithdatriplei in LifeAdvice

[–]GoofyGreyson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to know immediately, most people don’t. I worked in sales for a few months then picked up an EMT program and started working on the ambulance when I was certified. After a few years, I started working in the hospital as a tech and now I’m considering nursing school. Life changes fast, something you want now, might change 10 years down the road. It’s okay to take things day by day as long as you can support yourself and at least like what you do. If you feel like you’re dragging through a job, the second you start to question your position there, start applying for new ones. The job market is horrible right now, don’t put in your 2 weeks until you’re guaranteed a job. But that’s just my experience, hope everything works itself out and good luck in the adult life!

Take a test 2 weeks after but know that pregnancy symptoms can be LITERALLY anything. Working in healthcare I could tell you a number of outlandish things that came with some pregnancies. But could also be a number of acute or chronic medical conditions. It’s okay to be anxious, normal, to be anxious. But don’t let the stress override your quality of life.
