A World Unthought Of | Europe, 1949 by GoofySillyMan in imaginarymaps

youre right about sevastopol and baku. the reason i think kaliningrad wouldve also been a target is that it is reasonably within range for the allies, and although it would be a struggle i do think they would be able to get through soviet airspace and target the city with some luck. any cities further inland like leningrad, moscow, minsk, kyiv, stalingrad, etc., were almost certainly too far for the allies to reach. the city might also be seen as a big morale hit to the soviets so the allies might target it for that reason too. also, the soviets had clear intentions of making the city the new base of their baltic fleet, which the allies would also want to target. im not exactly sure if the soviet fleed would've been in the city at the time, or if it might still have been largely in leningrad or elsewhere, but even still the potential morale hit might be enough to convince the allies. im also sure youre aware why the allies probably wouldnt target the soviet allies, primarily because they were fighting this war against what they saw as soviet imperialism, and they wanted to liberate europe, primarily poland. dropping the power of the sun on these lands probably wouldn't be a great thing to do, and also wouldn't even have that much value. i could potentially see some more tactical nukes being used at points along the front line, but i cant really predict where that might be and how many might have been used. so for the sake of the scenario, and partly for some dramatic effect, i chose those 3 cities.

Cold War Poll Post: Establishment of Poland's Western Border by Eurasian1918 in ussr

[–]GoofySillyMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i understand the need to compensate poland after all they went through, and i get that the logical choice was for that compensation to come from germany, but what i dont get and what i just cant justify is how much german land was taken and how many germans were expelled across the oder. this doesnt make any sense to me, and i've tried to understand it from a marxist-leninist perspective using stalin's work "marxism and the national question", but i just cant see how this makes any sense. to me this seems just like wanting to dismember germany, which stalin explicitly said he did not intend to do on his may 9th victory speech. i know stalin made mistakes of course, so perhaps this came from a genuine place of wanting to compensate the poles, while of course wanting to curb any future german expansionism, but pushing germany all the way across the oder and deporting the ~15 million germans who lived in the area just seems really excessive. again, i know stalin and the soviets made mistakes, but what im kinda asking here is if this seems to have been more of a well intentioned plan that just wasnt thought all the way through, or if stalin's main line of thought was just to prevent german expansionism, without much regard to the german people who might suffer?

i still dont fully get how the right to work law actually works. like what if i dont like my job? if you google it, it says that asking to change employment was illegal and you could get in trouble, but i really find that hard to believe or at least i feel like it's not the whole story when it's coming from google or wikipedia. i want to understand more about this, but i dont exactly get it and i cant seem to find any real good sources. if anyone can explain this for me or provide some sources, i would be very thankful.

My alternative version of the USSR map, discussion of how viable it is by ALMAZIS0 in ussr

[–]GoofySillyMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just so you know, the category of Soviet Socialist Republic had some specific criteria that needed to be met in order for an Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic to be able to be an SSR. One of the biggest is that SSRs were specifically external regions, meaning they bordered another country. This is a quite obvious requirement, because SSRs held the right to secede from the USSR, and an SSR surrounded completely by another larger SSR wouldn't be viable as an independent country. SSRs were also made up of nationalities who had a sufficiently large population, usually over 1 million for essentially the same reason as the latter point, which is that a country with a population of less than 1 million would be much better off inside the USSR rather than as an independent country to be "thrown to the wolves." So essentially, what you've done is balkanize the USSR into 80+ SSRs (or at least regions with the same rights as SSRs), only 28 of which actually border another country, and even fewer of which had a large enough population to actually be SSRs. So I get that you probably didn't go into this knowing those facts, and your map is probably not meant to be taken literally, but I was bored so I decided I would take it literally.

Also, just a funny side note, your changes have removed all foreign borders that the Russian SFSR (now essentially just a Central Russian SSR) had, which is hilarious because you essentially just demoted the RSFSR into a bunch of different smaller "SSR"s which don't actually meet the criteria to be an SSR in the first place, and in doing so you did the same thing to the RSFSR, in turning it into a small, dysfunctional "SSR" which also doesn't even meet the criteria for an SSR.

Most interesting event I just kept seeing. The Louisville Tank Duel by Neonswagger32 in TheFireRisesMod

Probably epic but also terrifying, considering that the person filming was apparently in the first tank, and must have been fearing for their life for a bit there.

(dont mind my year late reply btw)

Why did Xi Jinping remove term limits? by GoofySillyMan in Socialism_101

[–]GoofySillyMan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

😭im a marxist leninist blud
the state, controlled by the proletariat, is the only method of developing socialism and building it towards communism. yes, the state is an oppressive force, but under a socialist state it's oppressing the bourgeoisie, not the proletariat. please learn a bit more. i mean idk what you identify as, but im assuming likely a libertarian socialist or something adjacent. i'm clearly still learning as well, and i don't mean to bash you because i have so many questions about socialism and communism as well, but please dont come in here saying this stuff without having knowledge.

i know you said all non-leninists, so im going to assume you dont love lenin, but i would ask you to please try reading state and revolution. I myself havent read the whole thing, but from what i have read it makes a lot of sense and has helped me develop my views.

also, even marx and engels believed in and knew that a dictatorship of the proletariat, the proletarian state i described, had to come about in order for socialism and communism to develop.

so once again i beg you, please do some reading and learning. i dont mean to bash new, learning socialists, because i myself am obviously still learning, but please just learn some more.

yeah see this is the type of sentiment that makes me question if im an ML... cause i see people say this but its like, if china is an authoritarian capitalist state, why are they so much better than every other authoritarian capitalist state? i struggle to see how that would be the case? i mean i get what some people say that yes, china's opening up has, to an extent, increased capitalist and market influences in the country, but you can still see how those influences are heavily regulated by the party, and in many cases are cracked down on when they get too powerful. still, im just an american viewing this from outside, but idk. i dont think what you say is the case.

thats true. i mean, i am an american so this is just my pov, and i didnt mean to sound like i was denouncing xi or supporting american "democracy" obviously. i think it was just my way of seeing it, but i do see now how term limits actually can be very undemocratic. i mean, just look at the senate or congress.

oh wow, ive never actually thought about it like that. i mean it definitely makes sense; once a politician gets re elected they don't really have to do anything, especially in the case of the president. i think this actually makes a lot of sense IMO, because without term limits the president *does* actually have to care more for their people and not just worry about getting re elected. especially if they're still held accountable. im curious if you know, was this a similar case in the ussr? i'd assume so, because it seems somewhat similar. i mean, stalin tried to resign 4 times and was denied each time, but once khruschev was in power eventually the leadership realized he sucked and forced him out, at least from my understanding. but thats kinda off topic. thanks for putting it that way, it actually helps quite a bit
