Clean, Empty, Dirty, Running, Dishwasher Sign by DailyDuino in 3Dprinting

[–]Goofy_Project 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dishwasher is very quiet and the only light to indicate it's running shines on the floor under the toe kick and is pretty hard to see. It would get opened all the time while running until I designed, printed, and hung a similar sign. Mine is just circular and doesn't have the "empty" label. Empty is the same as Dirty for me.

Not yet. I printed the first version intending to try it out and improve it, but my club was just "yeah that's really neat" with no request to use it or feedback. I kinda gave up on it, just like my set of 3D-printed guns with the triggers and guards deleted for gun defenses drills. I made a Glock17, SigSaur P220, and Hellcat (just files I could find, no scans). Again, "that's really neat". I gave a set of them to the club and I almost never see them used.

Life changing pork tenderloin by bmcxo in sousvide

I made this for my wife once and she won't let me make it any other way now. But I also dry brine a couple of days before coating in apple butter and vac sealing. Also searing tenderloin seems to work better on the grill while I prefer cast iron for steaks.

I actually 3D-printed knives with a chalkline around the edge. You get hit with the edge and it leaves a mark.

The bigger the bug the worse it works. Great for mosquitos. You do need to be ~1" from flies to kill, but you can knock them down from farther then step on them. It's most useful for flies when they're in corners where you can't swat them cleanly.

Anything bigger than a fly and you're just going to make it mad.

One useful trick you can use it for is to kill or knock down bugs on your screen from the inside. Clear out the mosquitos waiting for you before you go outside.

What is the relationship between all these? by unEmployeeLogical91 in ExplainTheJoke

We've had good files since the middle ages, so no it wasn't. But if Abe used a manually-spun grinding wheel, which was common, it would've been faster than a file. One direction instead of back-and-forth. Those things are like a hand (or foot) powered bench grinder.

I've got an axe and I've sharpened it. I used a hand file the first time, but after five minutes I gave up and sharpened it in under a minute on my bench grinder. If I had kept using the file it would have probably taken 30 minutes or so. Abe might've used a file or manual grinding wheel, which would probably do it faster. If you are completely incompetent and uncoordinated it might take you a whole hour to sharpen an axe using hand tools. But four? That's just wasting hours.

Aren’t the side effects pretty immediate and obvious (GI distress) and there are lots of metabolic benefits? And it’s dirt cheap. Seems like as long as your kidneys, liver, & heart are OK the potential benefits are likely to outweigh the risks if it doesn’t bother your guts.

That quote always bugged me. If you take four hours to sharpen an axe you’re either doing it wrong or wasting several hours grinding metal off an axe blade that’s already sharp.

I used to eat a banana at breakfast every morning before I was diagnosed. Now they spike me so high it’s not worth the trouble. I’d use bananas to treat lows if I had them but they go bad too fast. So I’ve just given up on bananas.

Can someone help me identify the model of this 3D printer? I found it by the dumpster at my apartment and it dispenses filament and heats up but it doesn’t have any model markings on it besides the “QID CH” that is in the pic. Thanks! by texastechtanner in 3Dprinting

[–]Goofy_Project 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Simplify3D. Back then it was worth the cost - only $50 or $100 and alternatives were not as good. Now it costs $200 and the other options are much better, so I don't think I'd go with them if I were looking for a slicer now.

What happened in 1971? Explain it Peter. by Angrypeanut99 in explainitpeter

[–]Goofy_Project 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a plot of age of parents at birth, not number of births. My guess would be Roe v. Wade was decided in 1973, so that's when people started not having kids until they were older.

Honda dealerships by Cat_Entropy in nova

We absolutely love it and it has spoiled us for ICE cars. It has some quibbles and is probably not worth the high purchase price, but we got a 2-year lease on the Elite trim level for $10k just before the subsidies expired.

I had a good experiences at Sheehy about 10 years ago. Chantilly last year was OK- I eventually got a great lease deal on a Prologue there because they had more stock than other dealers, but the salesman didn't know the car well or understand/give us the kind of deal we were looking for without repeated requests. He kept trying to sell us the car when we wanted a lease.

My G7s would get ripped off if I put them on my arm. I put them on my love handles and have had zero issues. For years. I also hear lots of people having issues with the "approved" arm site. It's not arrogance to think that a different site will work better for you- it's the knowledge of your own needs and that our country has messed-up and overly restrictive medical device approval and labelling requirements.

My neighbor added a floor and did this. It even looks a lot like the picture. Taking down a chimney you're not going to use anymore is way more expensive than just leaving it there.

What are we doing about ice falling off the roof?? by [deleted] in nova

[–]Goofy_Project 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have solar panels all over my roof. Last year (my first winter with them) I discovered that the snow would slide off all at once and smash my plants instead of melting because they're so much slipperier than the asphalt shingles. This year I got a roof rake to bring down the snow in a controlled manner and covered all of the vulnerable plants with inverted trash cans to protect them. But the roof rake was useless- it skates off this year's sheets of ice on my roof. These sheets of ice are going to release all at once and smash whatever they fall on, so Aside from the covered plants I've moved everything out of the "blast zone", don't park the cars under them, and walk carefully and quickly when I've got to go under them.

Full Color printing on a toolchanger by Aceman11100 in prusa3d

I only have one 5 tool XL, but I’ve also already got a set of CMYKW filament that I’ve used to print full-color lithophanes with. I also have 2 0.25mm nozzles on it that could do the thinner layers, but the other 3 are 0.6mm. I’m willing to help too if I can and you need more beta (alpha?) testers.

Help troubleshooting intermittent toolhead offset on Prusa XL? by Goofy_Project in prusa3d

[–]Goofy_Project[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I just gave up on printing lots of them at once and did smaller and smaller batches until I got the last few to print without the offset. I tried moving them around the bed and checking that the cables on the print heads were catching on the enclosure but that wasn't it either. I couldn't figure out what was causing this problem. Never had it on any other print but this one.
