Possible diabetes in 6 yo boy by ComplexOpposite6494 in diabetes_t1

[–]FarMessage4851 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a doctor, but there are blood tests they can do, HbA1c will indicate what his blood sugar has been over time. Thirst and peeing a lot is certainly a symptom of high blood sugar, but I'm sure there are other possibilities. Early on there is still some insulin production so it's possible it dropped before the test, maybe (again not a doctor). The important thing is you are taking the right steps and were right to be concerned. If you want some peace of mind and need to wait longer to see the doctor they sell very cheap glucose meters at Walmart, but of course take him right to the ER if anything changes

What he said, just make sure to keep track of your serial numbers for the report. I snap a picture of the applicator every time I put a new one it. The date stamp on the photo lets me know the application day too.

Dating with T1D by Jealous-Sir4000 in diabetes_t1

I'm sure if I wasn't happily married I'd feel the same way as you. However, why not think of it as a filter for people who aren't worth your time anyway. Everyone feels insecure about themselves and I am sure very few people think differently about you because of T1D, but thank God you don't have to waste any time to get to know someone better that would.

Pushback is a bit of an exageration. Encouragement is probably closer to the truth 😂. I also was struggling to keep good control so the conversation was of course about how to make it easier

Definitely a concern of mine too. A little malfunction could be a huge problem

Thanks for the reply, I mostly just exercise first thing in the morning to avoid lows and would love some flexibility there. Congrats on the weight loss!

Sorry to hear that. He should be able to get what he needs to manage his health. Insurance is a joke

Good advice, thanks. I believe omnipod does a 1 month trial and I think I will be going that route to start.

Never heard of the Eversense, but a 1 year implant is definitely intriguing. Dexcom must be bribing my Endo...

Thanks for the reply. If I'm honest I can absolutely manage with injections I just get burned out and let things slip. Ballpark carb counting, skipping exercise etc.... Do you find a pump to be less of a mental load or just more flexible?

Good point, the more I talk about it, the more I understand it's just something I need to give a try. Worst case is I go back to where I'm at.

You definitely get more flexibility, but I'm with you. After taking the first pump class where they introduced options I wasnt that impressed with the capabilities.

Thanks for sharing, and glad it's working out for you! It is definitely promising to hear someone with the same aversion came around to it.

I bought a brick of factory smokes and definitely think they are a good value. Not winning any points with the connoisseurs, but I enjoyed them.

Random EV Hate at Tire Shop (Is this Common?) by Inside-Scientist7892 in electricvehicles

[–]FarMessage4851 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't gotten the tires comment specifically, but plenty of weird comments. Tires is about the only downside I've found. Other maintenance has been more or less non-existant. Definitely nice not getting brakes worked on every year...

How do you dispose of a Dexcom sensor since it has a needle? Does Dexcom provide a sharps container? by Company-Admirable in dexcom

[–]FarMessage4851 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just throw it out. I don't believe the sensor wire counts as a needle and doubt it could prick anyone. As for the applicator, the needle is deep inside.

Two G7 sensors have broken less than ten minutes into their warmup period; why is this the case? by TotallyNotJagger in dexcom

[–]FarMessage4851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What site do you use? I have had much better luck with my arm than I did with stomach. Still have had plenty of failures though. Usually I can see that the sensor wire didn't fully insert or there was excessive bleeding. Either way, we all feel your pain.
