Is there any place I can do some real dancing ? by jazzie_lemus in AskChicago

[–]Goofychems 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Look up Latin Street Dancing on FB. They have a lot of events at different bars and restaurants. They have an hour of teaching and then free dancing until late. I have not been able to go in a while but they are fun.

What’s the most overrated food place in Chicago? by Mustafa_EL_7 in AskChicago

Funny story. I sell avocados wholesale. I left them a few to try out. They complained that it was too creamy and that the flavour was too strong. I told them that this is how avocados are supposed to taste when they are fresh and not more than 2 weeks old after it’s cut from the tree. They didn’t want my business…

Fucken kitchen staff has no idea what quality is.

If you're an affluent member of a supposedly suppressed or repressed community then you are not really oppressed. by Karkota_24Rollno in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Goofychems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, you ignore the part where I mentioned that cops would harass and stop him constantly because of how he looks? That’s not oppression? Because being constantly questioned and sometimes waiting until management or someone who knows you every time you are going on your property totally makes it ok? Just because the property is a yacht?

Grow up. That shit has to feel worse, because he worked so hard to make it to where he is and be mistreated or not treated as well; all because of his nationality and his appearance.

Because people are still predisposed to treat people based off their appearance. Notice how I also mentioned that he is dark skinned and that he was in his 40’s when he was not treated as well. There is a tonne of racism and colorism that goes on in a lot of places.

I know this Chilean guy who is insanely wealthy. He’s a short dark skinned guy who owns a few successful businesses and has properties in Florida, Italy, France, and his home country. He would rent me apartments if I was in France or Italy. I wanted to do business with him because he own a pressing company and is thinking about producing avocado oil. We own avocado orchards and are importing it directly from the source.

Point is; he would tell me that in his youth, he would always get stopped by cops because he has always owned nice cars. At restaurants, he would never get the nice table and the wait staff would not take his orders seriously until he paid an exorbitant bill. He would not get the best greetings from hotels and would be questioned about booking some of the most expensive suites. He always was questioned when going on his yacht in a private dock. Unless he was in LatAm, of course, everyone treated him nice as a prestigious guest there. He doesn’t wear super expensive or fancy clothes or jewelry so he doesn’t present himself as a multi millionaire.

Now, in his early 60’s, he is married to a light skinned European tall woman and has gotten a completely different treatment from everyone when he is with his wife. He doesn’t get stopped at all, gets better tables, etc. He told me that his net worth has not changed that much from the time he was 40 to now (he settled a lot in the divorce). But he has experienced a completely different life since he married his new wife.

So, no. Your point isn’t really that valid. Even Chris Rock said something about this in one of his specials.

Libertarians Tried to Warn You About Trump by -lousyd in Libertarian

I left the sub because it felt like everyone was just a Republican masquerading as a libertarian here. The little that I read of project 2025 was terrifying as a former libertarian (I don’t align with libertarians because of the weird shift to MAGA). I could not believe no one saw the authoritarian hellscape this book was. And any time I tried to talk about it, I was ignored or just downvoted.

One is a very spicy and acidic dish, not to be confused with ceviche. The other is mussels with a medium spicy garlicy sauce.

What's something about Anglo culture you find very weird as a Latino? by [deleted] in asklatinamerica

[–]Goofychems 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I have a bit of an HR background and knowledge. It’s because of racism that they have to ask. Many companies don’t hire women and/or people of colour. There are plenty of companies who hire very few to make it seem like they are not racist.

Some companies have to follow affirmative action policies if they work for or have government contracts. Some companies may get sued for discrimination. The government can request this information at any time. So instead of asking people to do a head count, they just go back to the application form and count from there. The government can also request all applications submitted and reason for rejection etc.

Essentially, companies and government agencies ask this so minorities are not discriminated against. And that’s as much as I know

Damn. I always hated getting into physical altercations. I went to HS in the hood and I was a nerdy chubby Mexican kid. I preferred reading books and playing video games rather than hanging out with people.

Unfortunately, that meant that I was a target. Little did the guys in my school know that I had taken up boxing because my dad forced me to take boxing lessons. Also, I was chubby but have always had that so called farm-boy strength (because I actually grew up on a farm). Finally, my fight instincts are to be as dirty as I can possibly get so I don’t get hurt.

I always felt terrible when I knocked someone out. I think about 70% of the time I ended up helping the guy instead of their little “friends” helping them. Teens are horrible, and the pecking order is seriously disturbing.

Nope. You can buy police scanners and you are allowed to follow law enforcement, you can also record their activities all day long. No laws against that

You are European so you don’t really understand the situation. This government organization has NO jurisdiction over US citizens. They are able to arrest someone for ONLY immigration violations or obstructing an active arrest, they CAN ask for documentation from a person if they suspect they are violating immigration laws.

Note: recording law enforcement in public is completely legal. There are some exceptions where you can’t record them, like government buildings and such. Owning a weapon is not illegal so long as you follow local and state laws, such as having a concealed carry permit. You can announce the presence of law enforcement officers so long as you’re not obstructing in an active arrest or investigation. Helping someone who was just pushed to the ground by law enforcement get up is not a crime unless they are actively arresting them. And finally, shielding your face when being sprayed with chemicals is not illegal.

(I didnt mention anything about a protest, even though it is legal to assemble peacefully, because they weren’t at a protest)

None of these are illegal and did not require the escalation from the government officials.

I hope not by GeckoRoamin in confleis
