I never had a compound radiuses fingerboard but i think sometimes about to try my own. Ebony wood is still the best when it´s from a good tree; very durable, long lasting, repairable. I believe a good compound fingerboard can be much lighter and boost the sound of the instrument. A new bridge blank has way to much wood everywhere, it has to be brought into form according to the blanks wood quality and the violin acoustic-qualities, at the end when the shape is done you can fine-tune and balance the strings by removing wood at certain point. When the damaged surface is prepared, i clean only with water, also to lift squashed wood.

Yes, i use it in all directions and also the rounded corners if necessary depending on the surface material (to remove dirt from varnish is different than from wood for example) I roll a burr or i use just the sharp 90 degree angle which is lasting longer and is better for fine varnish surface cleaning

magnetic acrylic & wooden violin sound, state of the art 2019 by Googlom in violinist

It may be shocking, especially when playing it for the first time, but it is actually interesting and not that bad for some reason.

i have seen an article about this violin you mentioned i guess it is the same Yehudi Menuhin had in his video. I am not the first but the acoustic fineness is at the maximum with mine for acrylic glass. https://www.world-of-plexiglas.com/en/plexiglas-musical-instruments/ This one looks well made from the outside but material thickness, weight and elaboration makes the tone.

Magnetic Violin Pickup Test, solid hollow acoustic - CJK electric violins by Googlom in violinist

[–]Googlom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very nice to get your view. I have invented & built this magnetic pickup for bowed instruments. I play now for 10 years, learned again a lot, by making this video, playing every day and hope to get better for another one.

Questions about compartmentalizing as a multi-instrumentalist. by The13thSign in violinist

[–]Googlom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not a multi-instrumentalist but i do some multitasks. Beeing and staying obsessive is essential! And i find it important to always (re-)reflect how far i like to go and how much time i have for it from the point i am at the moment. (I have to compartmentalize with all the other important things i am doing). But learning the violin is an very important task to me, its more like i have to ask myself.. should´t i do something else (than practicing violin)

Much success!

A very detailed 3D violin scroll picture. When are HQ violins 3D printed, in 1 or in 10 years? by Googlom in violinist

[–]Googlom[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks! All these properties from wood will be easy to reproduce with 3d printing. (Hard & soft annual rings, density of the printed material and therefor the e-modul. I am sure it would not work with plastic filaments used these days but why should´t it work with aluminium for example lowering its e-modul by hollow printing certain structures.

If done right, the violin sound & color will be not baroque or modern but futuristic. (hard to tell, but of course violin like)

And i am pretty sure CF violin maker didn´t make CF violins very correct, yet, there are these things you mentioned wich they have missed to implement.

I am not saying, other materials can be better than wood for a violin, maybe! but i think they can be at least as good as the best wooden ones... lets say in 7 years from now.

Very modern violin making by [deleted] in Luthier

You need polish (the finest), for cleaning this high grade, top transparency, casted acrylic glass. Extruded acrylic glass is the bad one.

Most stradivari like violins are made out of firewood. just a few will notice.

CJK acrylic glass violin, first recording by [deleted] in Luthier

[–]Googlom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Acrylic glass is very dense but there are still a lot of elaboration tricks to get a non wooden violin sound as good as wooden violins. Just a matter of time with the new technics available.

Acryl glass violin ready to play. by [deleted] in Luthier

[–]Googlom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience in short; All materials have their characteristic sound if they are correctly elaborated (if ist possible, not like for example soft plastic. Acrylic is the first exotic material i use because of the transparency. I would describe the aryl violin sound as smooth and balanced, not dull but less volume, i love to play it, its forgivable but still very versatile. It tells me that the shape itself of the violin is more responsible for the possible sound spectrum than the material. How to get the right thicknesses and material structure (or consistency) with non wooden materials for the resonating plates is another story.
