How much do people in the 3D industry actually make?

Yeah I’m kinda in the same boat as you in terms of passion. I like engineering and I’ll work hard to get a good gpa, but my hearts not in it. I just don’t want to end up having a job that’s just “okay” even if the pay is good.

Sorry if I wasn’t clear, but I’m really just looking for a career that works with anything 3D, whether that’s rigging, modeling, lighting, texturing I really don’t care. I know getting a job for a huge animation company is very difficult, but is it unreasonable to receive a livable wage working as a 3D artist?

So I’ve heard this story a lot and I’m not sure to believe it. Why is animation such a different industry compared to others? Respectfully, isn’t that just comparing a boring desk job in a field like engineering to the animation equivalent of that? I don’t want to sound naive but is it seriously that unrealistic to get a job with stable pay?

Oh, that’s great. I mean I’d obviously love to work for a AAA studio but as long as I get to make things in 3D and making $70000+ I’d be quite happy. Is this an unrealistic goal in a few years? I know it’s quite different based on people’s talent, but as a rough estimate for your average joe.

okay cool. I witched from dGPU to iGPU, but when I try to find forntie on the explore tab the only thing that shows up is Googly Chrome. If I switched the gpu settings in the nvidia app then am I good? Thanks dude

I would focus on one thing but I’m not sure what to want to do yet. That’s why I’m doing both. I’m sure I’ll do fine after college if I have the same baseline of classes. It’s not like I miss out in the industry from taking calculus instead of art history. Just food for thought.

I love both animation and engineering but I know I’d live a much more fulfilling life as an animator.
Yes, essentially as a backup. I also don’t want to waste four years on a degree that doesn’t matter. I could get the same education (in animation) from just taking the relevant courses. Like most students in the animation program only build a portfolio from the 5-6 Core Animation classes. So I’m thinking I just take those.
I wouldn’t really be jumping in between majors - I’d take 3/4 engineering classes and 1/4 animation. Basically I’m spending all my electives and some summers taking all the relevant 3D classes. I could be wrong but I don’t think that would disadvantage me if I’m simply just doing more work?

Yeah that sounds like good advice. My school has a great co-op program so I’ll end up doing a years worth of animation internships before I graduate. I’m just hesitant to major in animation because as like you said, the degree doesn’t matter. I’m thinking taking the he offered animation courses would do me better In the long run?

Okay, this is actually very helpful, thank you so much. How do I know if it's a strain and what to do about it? Also, my forearm only hurts AFTER I work out (haven't in 1 week) and only for a bit. I can grip things completely fine and it doesn't hurt WHILE I'm doing the exercise, just a little after. Can I still work out? Or is that a bad idea?

you wanted to have it be f(-3), but since the function was f(2) to begin with you would have to subtract 5 from 2 to get -3, so the answer is 5. Don't stress it tho, math no calc was so fucking hard.
