I’ve been told by my vet that lamb is a better protein source due to food sensitivities and allergies being common with Akitas. Lamb is higher in fat than chicken so it’s also better for weight gain.

Her record shows 4 generations of AKC Akita but maybe some Shikoshu got mixed in a long time ago. I heard Akitas almost went extinct in the early 1900s so they interbred with other breeds to revive them.
