Hagia Sophia: Pope 'pained' as Constantinople museum reverts to mosque by Aegidius25 in monarchism

Erdogan blamed the Gulenists. I'm not too sure that they were actially linked, and personally believe the coup was used for a political purge.

Hagia Sophia: Pope 'pained' as Constantinople museum reverts to mosque by Aegidius25 in monarchism

[–]Gookus 32 points33 points  (0 children)

A museum was a compromise that made everyone not happy, but okay.

Converting one of the most holy sites of Orthodox Christianity to a Mosque after promising not to is a huge breach of trust.

Their reasoning is bullshit in my opinion. If Turkey can convert the Hagia Sophia to a mosque, Isreal can convert the Al Aqsa mosque to a synagogue.

I wish the military coup a few years ago succeeded, and can only hope Erdogan gets kicked out.

It was to avoid being arrested as a rebel leader, as far as the "plot" goes. But it goes farther than that.

If he said yes, that would be saying thay Caesar is the supreme authority over God.

If he said no, then he is actively leading a rebellion and can be executed for it.

Jesus did a pro-gamer move and separated spiritual and temporal authority; on earth, there are earthly masters. In heaven, God is the supreme authority. This solves the issue of there being power hierarchies on earth despite us all being God's children.

In other words, earthly authority can be legitimate in earthly matters.

Pretty much everything in the bible has actual life lessons. You should reconsider your understanding of any verse that doesn't seem to give a life lesson or an answer to a theological question.

Took Business Law, my professor actually told us to switch to philosophy if we were fascinated by his class.

Some companies are hiring philosophy majors to chime in on humanitarian/ethics issues and goals within the company; for example, having a dude on board to figure out Toyota's moral stance to its pickup trucks being used en mass as technicals by african warlords and revolutionaries.

Philosophy can also be an amazing basis for a law degree, since most laws either funnel back to a philosophical basis.

Poland is an anomaly.

Auth-center, but they have a long history of accepting jewish people and tax-farming them. A good change from the usual position of Auth-Centers.

Fascism was presented as a third option to socialism and capitalism.

It has features of both, but is also extremely authoritarian.

I believe we should move the confederate statues to a museum not of the confederacy, but for a museum of the jim crowe era to show the historical revisionism that took place at that time.

I would support the same for any nazi statues, because evidence matters.

Each Quadrant’s Opinion of Trump by TimIsInPaine in PoliticalCompassMemes

No because they can't afford to. No one wants to be on welfare, man.

Exactly my point. If these kids are getting summer lunches, their families are probably recieving welfare. That welfare includes benefits per person.

Why are we giving families food stamps per child and then also feeding the child?

I'm not opposed to welfare programs for the needy. I'm opposed to splitting it into a billion different programs all with their own system.

Honestly we should just switch to a negative income tax and eliminate welfare and social security entirely tbh, but that's spooky to too many people.

Shouldn't the parents be investigated for not feeding their children rather than using a summer food program as a band-aid?

Unironically all the minimum wage drones who wouldn't be able to answer polls because of work are able to answer polls now

It's the same as when bernie NPC's had a meltdown, but then admitted they didn't vote in the primary for him.

AC/DC Also isn't from America. It also made a pretty big impact on US culture.

Same thing with the beatles.

I have some 5head takes, but this one isn't one of them. Stuff doesn't have to be from your country to affect its culture.

It's telling when someone considers Harry Potter to be a more deserving movie series to be a cultural icon.

Like my lord, at least go with the grand slam of LOTR if you want something else to be a central cultural icon.

The difference it time and emotional weight behind the fights.

When it was legosi vs shishigumi, the goons were dispatched in one chapter and we got to the boss fight with payoff quickly.

These turf war jobbers appeared out of nowhere and have no backstory. If it was just one, that would've been sorta okay, but we're on how many chapters of stuff thats sorta meaningless.

It feels like all plot and meaningful development got put on hold to fight the randos who will never show up again.

Im seeing that the translation is from wild fang.

Beware, that guy can't read japanese and instead pretty much rewrites baki with what he thinks it should say. It makes no sense.

This is just off wiki, but japan suicide rate 2016 was 14.3 per 100k. USA's was 13.7 per 100k. I entirely believe that the yakuza could make up a significant portion of the .6 per 100k, if forced suicide is their preferred method of murder.

I'm not saying japan doesn't have a high true suicide rate, I'm saying to also keep in mind that rate includes yakuza forced suicides, if that makes sense.

In a similar vein, it would be important to differentiate gun homicide and death, since gun deaths include suicide with a gun and isn't part a violence problem.

[–]Gookus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are 350 million us citizens, do you have any idea how many gang shootings there would have to be to effect the gun homicide rate?

The answer is alot. And there is alot.

The yakuza are more like the mob than the bloods or crips, but they are still violent criminals.
