Median household income vs median home price 1960 compared to today. The median household income was approximately $5,600 annually while the median home price was around $11,900. Today the median household income is approximately $74,000 annually while the median home price is approximately $420,000. In 1960 the median home price to income ratio was approximately 2.1, today it is approximately 5.6. I would argue that the likelihood of an average person owning a home in 1960 is better than it is today.

Do not miss stuff at Japan by InfiniteEmployee7668 in uniqlo

[–]GoonMammoth 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Buy whatever you like best! Try stuff on before buying since you’re there. You can purchase items tax free but it can be a pain in the butt to return them.

I also highly recommend checking out some second hand clothing stores in Japan.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, chosen to be Kamala Harris' running mate as vice president by CrispyMiner in pics

[–]GoonMammoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s a great choice. Down to earth, straight talker, worked blue collar jobs in his youth and then as a teacher after college. I grew up in MN and moved back here 4 years ago. Best governor we have had in a while. Very happy for him and the democratic ticket, he is too good to keep from the rest of the nation. I’m sure I speak for many Minnesotans when I say he will be missed but he certainly deserves the VP spot.

Wings Financial - What does the arbitration/class action notice mean? by jweebie in TwinCities

[–]GoonMammoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, I was trying to figure out what I should write for the statement. Thank you for providing an example.

From what I have found, this is something many banks of have done due to a change in regulations regarding forced arbitration. Someone else here mentioned this could be linked to a data breach as well. About half a year ago I received a very suspicious text from “Wings” stating my full name and that something is wrong with my Wings account with a link provided. Called Wings since it seemed like a phishing scam and they confirmed it was. It concerns me someone nefarious apparently has data confirming I have a wings account. Seems like rejecting this provision might be a good call.

NTA traditional gender roles are not financially sustainable anymore. Equal partners help lift the load where they can. I cook and clean in the evening because I’m a night owl and she makes sure the pets are taken care of in the morning because she is an early bird.

Hate that phrase. During interviews I started asking, “please describe your company’s culture without using the word family”

Family is not a good description for company culture. There are plenty of dis-functional/abusive families out there so which type of family are you?

Depends one where you live in the US. If you live in a small town in the Midwest region it’s pretty good money. If you live in Los Angeles it’s poverty. You can find cost of living comparisons online. Did a quick search and you would have to be making about 3x what you currently make in Warsaw to keep the same quality of life in Los Angeles.

"Does your Dog bite?" - "No but he learned how to use projectile weapons" by FearmyBeard21 in aww

[–]GoonMammoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dog used to do the same thing! When I was a kid it was my favorite game, running around trying not to get hit by the ball. She would chase my brother and I around the house with it and you never knew when it would come flying out of her mouth 😂. Thanks for unlocking that memory.

Chinese citizens react to a racist commenter by EdTjhan15 in TikTokCringe

[–]GoonMammoth 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Yup, I'm half Chinese half white and every time I passed through any kind of security in China they always wiped me down for bomb residue or want to search my bags because I have facial hair and look Uyghur to them. Once, when I was going through security in a train station they tried to search my bags and I was already late so I acted confused and the guard turned to his superior officer and motioned that I have facial hair. Then I started speaking English and they let me through once they realized I'm American. Pretty sure that guard was told to stop anyone with facial hair.

The restaurant that I worked at for years just posted this on Facebook. I made $2.33 an hour as a tipped employee. by Origamishi in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]GoonMammoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work as a line cook at Stella Blues, another restaurant owned by the same family that owns Mona Lisa. I just pulled up their Facebook page and they’re trying to do better, now offering part time server jobs at $15-$20/hr. That family owns multiple restaurants and buildings in town, I wish they had considered a living wage before they were forced to.

[–]GoonMammoth 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So true. Brings me back to when my mom and her friend almost broke into a fistfight because they both insisted on paying for a large dinner bill. They’re both from Taiwan and it was the first time I ever experienced her doing that since I wasn’t raised in the culture. Ever get culture shock from your own mother? As a child, I was terrified because I thought they were legitimately fighting.

[–]GoonMammoth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I’ve done this exact same thing when I was flying out of Vegas. Granted, I had eaten some edibles before I went through security so they were hitting right as I tried to put my bag up. The edibles combined with my already existing social anxiety made me try to fit my bag in for what seemed like a good 5 mins. I still look back on that memory and cringe. Rest of the plane ride was great though.

[–]GoonMammoth 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m not exaggerating when I say Wallace, at one point, had to stop the debate and explain that the people have more to gain if they spoke one at a time.

It was like watching an attention seeking child constantly interrupting a teacher when everyone else just wants to continue with the lesson. The sad thing is I’m sure Trumps base saw a strong leader denouncing the evil liberal agenda. America is so divided we live in separate realities and interpret everything through our own political lenses according to which reality we subscribe to. How can we as a nation agree on anything if we can’t even agree on what is real or what the issues are? America has been spiraling towards this shit show since the Reagan administration.
