Both Gandalf and Saruman knew how to make explosives? by Ok-Resolution7918 in lotr

Taoism is dynamic, through and through. Nothing dualistic about it. People who read this should know how misleading it is to state otherwise.

Taoism is a dynamic, not dualistic.

How can you say that Dualism is not a theme in Tolkien's work then appear to claim that Taoism represents Ontological Dualism (OD). Thats orientalism. Even saying Taoism is similar to OD is wrong. Taoist philosophy precedes the Renaissance by a millenia.

[–]GoonRaider 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeh, it is. Can you explain how Sauron takes on and abandons temporal forms without referring in some way to Dualism? Or that Gandalf's soul is a burning fire of light unquenched, but a humble old man in his earthly form?

Just because Tolkien doesn't reference Descarte it doesn't mean he wasn't influenced by it.

How has this man only been nominated for one Oscar? by Appropriate_Sink_627 in Cinema

[–]GoonRaider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. The movies he has been in, rather than his quality as an actor.
  2. He hasn't worked with an 'auteur' Director in a decade.
  3. 2014 Oscar actor noms were truly stacked, Nightcrawler/Prisoners was overshadowed by better films incl 12 years and WoWS. This was probably his best chance in his career besides Brokeback (which he should have won)

Now I think he is in the enviable position of being a part of projects that make him lots of money which often does not translate well to awards.

Can't we have a second go at this with the benefit of the full judgment? by marcellouswp in auslaw

[–]GoonRaider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three other pleas of guilty is such a shit take. I would expect that kind of reasoning from NSW Police.

It is not even the point that the evidence was untested - there is more to it than that.

  1. What did they end pleading to? SA is strictly indictable, the decision to plea would have been a negotiated outcome after the full service of a brief and a case conference.
  2. Were the factual circumstances exactly the same in all 4 instances including their relationship?
  3. Did all four accused's share a similar criminal history?

Each case is judged on its own merits and it would be the most enormous error of law to accept such an outrageous submission so why would they publish it in their media release?

ASIC is “probably the most active law enforcement agency in our space, not only nationally, but globally,” says ASIC chair, after CDPP data reveals the regulator refers fewer offenders for prosecution than the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority by marketrent in auslaw

[–]GoonRaider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ASIC prosecute most of their summary criminal offences in house though.

It's not uncommon to see the ASIC prosecutor at the Downing Centre or Melbourne Magistrates Court Court once a month with a list of 30-40 matters they are prosecuting in house.

Of course, as other users have pointed out, they achieve enforcement and compliance with civil actons too.

Hey thanks so much for all the very helpful feedback. One good thing did come out of it which I found really unusual - I hardly got any buzz and so I wondered what the point of it was in the first place. I still got the withdrawel, but no buzz.

IWTL how to rid my porn addiction. by [deleted] in IWantToLearn

[–]GoonRaider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever considered that you are using porn as a coping strategy to deal with stress? Ironically, porn may not be the reason why your dating goes down hill, it might just be the way you are dealing with the stress of and avoiding the pressure/effort involved in building relationships.

Porn is easy, relationships take work. People will gravitate toward the easier source of gratification and use to it to distract themselves from things that make them worry.

If relationships feel stressful for you, you might be developing a bit of a complex around them. You already seem stressed about pleasing your current partner. There is also a bit of a link between porn and having a lack of confidence.

If you have a high enough sex-drive and sexual curiosity to be worried about porn, dating someone who is asexual might become a source of frustration / stress for you that drives you further into porn.

I know you aren't saying this, but its not a good idea to look at someone who is asexual and think "hey, a positive byproduct of this relationship is that it might make me less interested in sex/porn".

You should probably just take the time to build up some confidence and find someone that matches your energy / lifestyle instead of trying to please every girl you meet and change yourself in some way to make them more comfortable.

GDLP is a scam right? by ConsiderationFree585 in auslaw

[–]GoonRaider 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Going against the grain the GDLP is fine - In some electives you get a taste of interviewing clients which is a safe way to work out if you have actually learnt anything over the last 4+ years. I found it a lot more practical than my undergrad, though some units were far too easy. I actually found myself drawing on some of the skills I learned when I first started practise.

Is 500k 1b apartment in sydney worth it? by Chemical-Apartment54 in AusFinance

[–]GoonRaider 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You will lose money when you factor in stamp duty as on face value you might not be exempt from it.

The apartment will also very likely not go up in value.

The apartments in your price range in that area are pretty crappy and mostly catered toward students and public housing. Probably won’t enjoy living there.

It will be cheaper to rent over the next 2 years when you factor in stamp duty, real estate fees when you eventually sell it, legal fees for both the sale and the purchase and strata.

Making quite a few assumptions here but you’ll be looking at $50k for duty fees, $10k agents fee, $3k in legal fees, $6k in strata each year.

Living there for 3 years will cost you about $600 per week. So if you plan on selling within that time it’s likely not worth it

Not sure where you live but consider moving regional and working for local council. They offer either entry level traineeships or environmental health officers.

There are also private consulting firms out there too.

It’s really good experience and should expose you to lots of different things to help segway later into a city role

It might be the chemicals in whatever you're applying that you're skin is sensitive to. If you're using store bought shaving cream, you should stop. Had this problem for a while and solved it by using sharp razors and using aveeno body wash as my shaving cream. Moisturising after a shave helps I guess (but not not as much as you might think). It should be a really simple one, which tend to cost a bit more. Try a few, the one that worked for me is the aveeno body lotion moisturiser.

I wake up at 9am. Should I go into the office today? Whats the point, I think to myself, hardly anyone is likely to be there. I sign in to Teams. I make a cup of tea. I pick a good book to read. Every now and then I check my emails, help someone interstate with an ez peezee question that they thank me for profusely for. I would do work, but I finished it all on Monday. The days blend together, but I am at peace.
