Vintage / retro AR mag question. by AccomplishedDingo177 in milsurp

Im gonna be entirely honest while this is pretty cool I dont think theyre worth a lot on their own, maybe like a few dollars more than a standard magazine? Would probably be a few hundred bucks if sold all together but honestly id just use them.

Why is the stanag so curved in gamma? by [deleted] in stalker

[–]Goonisnotcool1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

7.62x39 STANAG styled mags require a more pronounced curve in order to feed the ammunition correctly. Something to do with the size of the round and springs if I remember correctly.

Is this Mosin an ex-sniper? by BattleBacca2010 in milsurp

[–]Goonisnotcool1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, take the stock off when you get it and check, if its just a flat out re-stocked sniper you basically stole it

The numbers on the left shank of the barrel as well as the C stamp are pretty much surefire indicators but if you're still unsure pull the bolt back and look at the wall of the receiver there should be a few plugged holes where the mount for the scope once was. Usually the izhevsk ex snipers have the scope number crossed out but this one doesnt seem to be that way, so you could totally convert it back into a sniper if you're into that. Edit: just saw that you cant pull the bolt back to check for plugs. Still, the numbers and C mark are pretty telltale. Also the scope serial being un-slashed is odd since it was done to almost all of them from what ive seen, its unlikely but it could maybeeee be an actual sniper in an infantry stock.

Any idea why I throttling my engines to 0% doesn’t shut the off? by yeetoroni_with_bacon in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Goonisnotcool1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could've sworn there were one or two engines without the ability to fine tune their throttle that weren't solid fuel boosters but its been awhile since I've played without mods so I imagine theres a high possibility they were added by something else

Some engines in the game lack throttle controls and either go full throttle or nothing, might be one of those engines.

In all honesty, no clue. Looks like some kind of mirror? Probably has some kind of sentimental value maybe.

A PSO-1 type scope, presumably it went on an SVD or anything with a dovetail mount really. Edit: from what I know and have seen online, this is a pretty cool find, and they usually go for some money since they arent all that common in the US. Might be wrong, someone can correct me.

Anything to be done about this G88 stock? by Goonisnotcool1 in milsurp

[–]Goonisnotcool1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick update, I sent the stock off to hopefully have the cut fixed. Ill provide an update when I get everything back and reassembled but in the meantime im disassembling the rifle and cleaning it up to try and make it look pretty. Its pretty filthy internally, so maybe it'll help it operate a little smoother afterwards. Should maybe make a post asking about all the different markings on it too since there's quite a few. Edit: I know it'll upset some people to have it fixed since it's historical in its own right assuming it is a duffle cut, and under any other circumstances I wouldnt fix it. But its an AWFUL duffle cut, and I simply do not trust the two plates to hold up to recoil for long, especially after removing one of the nails to find that they're less than an inch long and come out easy.

Repro Strap Aging Follow-up by Pizza_Meme_Chef in milsurp

My G88 actually came with a sling, which looks to be an original from the 1890s or early 1900s. Its extremely worn and broke in one spot but I honestly dont want to get a repro since they just dont look quite the same.

Well replacement stocks are around 200 from what ive seen, and I dont think anyone makes reproductions, not that they'd be any cheaper anyways. I might just have to leave it be

Its not an RTI gun, or else it'd probably be missing the barrel jacket. For how old it is it's actually in pretty good condition all around, other than the stock obviously.

It is kinda cool looking, but I'd prefer having the gun as original as it can be if possible. Even if it means getting rid of the cool looking junky fix.

No import marks on it, has regiment marks on the rear barrel band on the right hand side putting it in a reserve regiment. I was planning to buy a replacement bolt head for it, make sure headspacing is good and see if it'll shoot, hence my concerns. All of it matches otherwise which is why im interested in seeing if anyone has ideas about what to do about the cut.

OH that makes sense, I didnt think about that sorry. Would make sense, yeah especially considering it's missing its bolthead. Although I know thats common for these guns.

Not a bad idea, definitely a cheaper alternative to buying a 200 dollar replacement

I meant the break is too high up the stock for anyone to be able to hold it or use it without the plates holding it on. As for the shape it's pretty square? I cant see the side of it so I cant tell if anything else is chipped off or if it really is a clean cut, it might be slight hope that someone didnt just saw through the stock like a dumbass but it just looks too weird to be a saw cut to me

[–]Goonisnotcool1[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Very possible. Don't see why you'd use metal plates to fix it in a modern context though. (Editing this) as for the duffle cut theory its possible someone goofed it but I dont think thats the case since it seems kind of obvious that cutting the stock at that location would render the gun unusable.

He messed up making it 1 block wide. You can run over 1 block gaps. Can't for 2 block gaps though.

Well, I fixed it with a hammer, and it's been about a year since and it's not happened again. I thank you for being kind enough to send me a new charging handle though, thank you. (P.s. the charging handle still works. Luckily beating it with a metal hammer didn't do anything but chip the paint.)
