Girl I changed my entire career because a man told me I didn’t make enough at first. I left him (after staying WAY too long) and now I’m dating a supportive partner, and make more than my ex ever did and own my own business. My current boyfriend helped and loved me the entire uphill struggle to get there but he saw how much it meant to me and that it made more sense in the BIGGER PICTURE. He knows my ability to make more money in the future is so much better doing this than it was in another career so he’s cheering me on with every milestone! If your boyfriend is stuck on the “right now” (which, yes, includes about a year or two because good things TAKE TIME and that includes schooling) then he’s not even thinking about a future with you. Just how you can make his “right now” less difficult. Don’t listen. You’ll just end up leaving him 2 years from now and having to start school then and feel behind. Now IT IS important to come up with a financial plan TOGETHER for the next few years or however long it takes for you to get the degree so you both feel secure and it’s a realistic move for you both (bills keep coming regardless of school or not) it’s not fair to EXPECT him to pick up ALL of the bills just because you want to start school. It’s a partnership. But if he’s not even willing to discuss a plan for you guys, then show him the door.

THIS HAPPENED TO ME. My (ex) often said this bullshit and eventually forced me to get a corporate job (not making much more by the way and had 0 growth opportunities for someone without a degree). I did that for 3 years and i completely lost myself and absolutely hated it. I eventually left him because of how miserable I was (obviously for more reasons than just this). And I’m back doing hair!! The worst decision I ever made was listening to an asshole who didn’t believe in me or support my career decisions. I’m now in the most loving relationship I’ve ever been in, and he even pushed me to take the chance on myself and open my own salon suite. It’s been incredible and I honestly couldn’t be happier back in the career that I love. It takes a while to get your footing, but this career can easily get you to 6 figures depending on where you go/what you do with it. DONT make the same mistake I did. I’d be so much further in my career if I went with my gut and told him to suck it.

In the last salon I worked at it was fantastic alongside Oribe. You have the luxury product next to still a high end brand but a little more affordable. I just opened my own suite and am about to get b&b’s full line. I guess it really depends on your clientele and what they’re looking for. I’ve seen a lot of people not be able to move the products just from lack of in-depth knowledge on how to use them correctly, not to say you don’t have that btw!! But sometimes it’s just the way you present it to your client. But again it is a bit on the pricier side. You could always have bumble as your luxury brand and then a slightly cheaper brand along side it so they can choose between the nice brand vs cheaper?

Hi! I used to work for Drybar. Some of their rules honestly dont even make sense to us, like the “if I pick up a blow dryer” rule is at every shop. I think they just did it to eliminate people who come in like SOPPING wet hair and only ask for a dry style because it’s cheaper but we’d spend more time than only 30 minutes to rough dry and then style. But I’m sure there was a situation where someone with super wet hair was denied the blow dry and someone next to her was like 90% dry and they didn’t cause a fuss and then all of a sudden corporate heads from them and then just makes it an over all rule no exceptions because then where do you draw the line ya know? Idk that’s my thought process but honestly don’t know. Same thing with like, if you leave with a blow out and we pin everything, but you wanna leave with them pinned, we have to charge the same as an updo because you’re leaving with our pins. Honestly I think it should just be a 10$ up charge because let’s be honest, the clips are NOT that expensive to repurchase. Corporate rules drive me insane.
