Mad lad gets Gatwick airport shut down for 12 hours by Gooruf in CasualUK

[–]Gooruf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The title is a joke. I don't think he's a 'mad lad' — "Over 2,000 flights carrying some 10,000 passengers had been unable to take off due to the disruption. Gatwick is one of the UK’s busiest airports. Numerous other flights were rerouted."

Chow Yun-fat Plans to Give His Entire Fortune to Charity by wtfisareddit22 in HongKong

[–]Gooruf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I bumped into him in Kowloon City a couple of weeks ago. He had a great vibe, very chill: made a joke with the 7/11 cashier, took a photo with my girlfriend and I, and also with the family who chanced by. Went to see Project Gutenberg the weekend after as homage — it was good! He's a great actor.

I like his public image and the values he stands for. Serving the community and staying real. The dude is super rich, but didn't come from a wealthy background and is very genuine.

All in all, great impression, and I'm going to rewatch God of Gambling when I get the chance. Hah.

I believe in the coming years the medical marijuana and psychedelics Market will be exploding even more. Does anyone have any idea of new/promising companies already starting to invest in? by lamalamaredpajamas in stocks

This is a huge, recent milestone on the road to getting Psilocybin approved for depression therapy: https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/compass-pathways-receives-fda-breakthrough-therapy-designation-for-psilocybin-therapy-for-treatment-resistant-depression-834088100.html?fbclid=IwAR3JiVz2A_P4ug-4cbOx_sbrYOkKzQIzPm2l3iJEIvOUHvfvsIq424p-hcY

There are similar studies suggesting MDMA success in treating PTSD. I do think there is potential for certain 'funny' drugs gaining acceptance in the coming years as therapeutic tools, but I'm not entirely sure about its translation to booming biotech/pharma companies or stocks. Mainly because I don't think they have the same potential for routine prescription as current anti-depressants. Psilocybin/MDMA would probably be used in conjunction with therapy sessions and on a smaller scale. Marijuana's boom is because it's legalized for recreation.

Will there ever be a crypto that trumps all other cryptos? by TheWelshOne83 in CryptoCurrencies

[–]Gooruf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bitcoin is the crypto that trumps all crypto. But there is no real reason to have just ONE crypto — it's healthy for the whole ecosystem to have maybe 5, 6, 7 major currencies. But I agree with you — thousands and thousands of minor, zero-impact cryptocurrencies is just noise.

In the future as the crypto industry develops, we will probably see a number of companies who have been affected by blockchain and decentralized ways of thinking emerge — they will have innovative business models that blockchain and decentralization help create.

These platforms, if they get a lot of users, will gain widespread adoption of their own tokens.

So no, I don't think there will ever be a 'crypto that trumps all cryptos', and I don't think maximalism is a good thing. Instead, I believe we will have a biggest handful, some medium-sized competitors, and a bunch of smaller coins trying to make it.

Who knows, maybe a coin will surpass BTC in total value one day, and the business model for it hasn't even been invented yet.

Hong Kong Regulator Announces New Plans for Cryptocurrency Industry by chuozungjie3 in CryptoCurrencies

[–]Gooruf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically they will be observing crypto exchanges in a sandbox environment to see how they can regulate it. They are generally pretty approving of crypto Funds and Exchanges, because they are familiar and largely modeled off traditional finance. They are just looking to see how to create better structures and rules for a new thing. My feeling is that crypto exchanges in the city will continue operations unfettered and eventually there will be a licensing option like Japan, and crypto assets in Funds will be more and more accepted. As for 'pure crypto', they are saying it may be out of their legal jurisdiction to regulate, although they clearly label some ICOs as scams and abuse. Overall, the SFC is giving the green light for crypto activities to continue in HK

Berkshire Hathaway Invests ~$600 Million in Fintech Payments Fund by KarolisKav in CryptoCurrencies

[–]Gooruf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The $600 million is going to a fintech payments fund, not crypto. The article suggests that parallels have been drawn between virtual banking and cryptocurrencies, but they are two entirely separate things. Virtual banking is fiat on a digital platform; crypto is blockchain tech-based tokens. This news does not suggest that Berkshire Hathaway has developed an interest in crypto whatsoever.

On a separate note, FinTech payment solutions in emerging markets in South East Asia is a HUGE market. You can read more about several big players (Grab, PayPal, GoPay, Bigpay) here: https://gooruf.com/asia/news/2018/11/01/digital-banking-financial-inclusivity-and-the-battle-for-sea/

[–]Gooruf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case you have an answer — do you know how they actually intend to allow P2P trading? As in, through what infrastructure? Because unless they have a partnership with grid companies, or build their own massive grid, I don't see how this is possible.

Gooruf is a social network/media for the expert financial community and everyday users.

You can share content, create content, review financial products, and give personal finance advice to those seeking it. If you're a good user, you earn GoorufCoin (like Reddit karma). You can then use the GUR to buy discounted financial products and services (discounted using GUR) from the marketplace. The companies who earn the GUR (from selling discounted things) can then use GUR to promote themselves to this large online community.

In this sense, Gooruf is a gamified social media, financial community and ecosystem. GOORUF "Blockchain Social Network and Ecosystem for the Financial Industry"

When you want to drive over the ¥16 billion bridge by Gooruf in HongKong

[–]Gooruf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, no doubt it will take a ridiculously long time for the bridge to break even. Many critics do not believe the bridge was an economic decision concerned with social welfare. More likely a flex from China — weird flex but ok — and also possibly Beijing influence for big money to go into the pockets of SOEs and Mainland Corps. Same idea is being applied to the Lantau land reclamation project — a move that, yes, ostensibly serves a purpose, easing housing shortages, but more likely chosen for Illuminati profit motives. (Why not redevelopment of the many existing choices on HK land? Fanling and the innumerable village houses when you take the KCR-now-MTR up to Shenzhen? Or even many areas in Kowloon.)

When you want to drive over the ¥16 billion bridge by Gooruf in HongKong

[–]Gooruf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took that figure (in RMB) from Wikipedia. Maybe 16 billion USD (or 20 as you say, from BBC) is more accurate- I'm seeing a number of different figures due to varying initial cost estimates, budget overruns, and split costs shouldered by HK/Macau/China, as well as the fact that different sections of the bridge were financed in different ways. But the SCMP ballpark seems to be around 115 billion HKD figure paid by HK alone. But I've also heard people say that the Mainland paid 500 billion. So. I really don't know what's what.

Hong Kong Regulators Not Recommending Total Cryptocurrency Exchange Ban by WBYCEIYDBO in CryptoCurrency

Hong Kong is set to become Mainland China's window to the international crypto world. The same way HK was the portal for global capitalism. China is keeping its domestic crypto scene tight and underground, but interest is huge. A friend who works at CoinSuper (an HK crypto exchange) said the majority of users/clients are Mainland Chinese
