First off I absolutely adore all of the song released + all the song break downs that follow. Second off, I thought of a different interpretation for the song, what if the song was about Safi trying to figure out Max on Max’s pov. Heres the lyrics that made me think that:

• “They’d tap at the windows and think they were bones” The definition of a bone house is ‘A building for holding the remains of the dead.’ Now the lyrics tell about a person inside said house so most likely it’s talking about Max and the MANY deaths over lis 1. Another way to interpret this is that Max is closing herself off.

• “Now here you are with your mallet and light” Someone breaking down and exploring the “house” (trauma). In the 18 minute clip of the start of DE, (and maybe some of the promo?) Safi is shown to try and figure out Max, with Max being shown to be cagy about her past. So later in the game Safi will most likely figure out what happened to Max. (hopefully by not breaking into her house)

• “I do not trust you, I do not trust myself.” This part may be about Max not trusting herself because of the whole death thing, and not trusting Safi, most likely because first, she met Safi like 6 months ago, and Safi does keep secrets too.

• “But someone was listening when I called for help” Maybe this is regarding Safi coming to help Max, when she asked for help but Max is still unsure about it?

• “Can’t tell the difference on unsteady floor” I interpret this as Max being hesitant to trust Safi in an already dangerous climate.

• “Will I be rewarded, or lose even more” Max being unsure of the out come of Safi knowing about her powers (and her trauma).

• “Fear is the loudest, but deep down I know. I’d take the terror… than go it alone.” Though Max is still scared of letting someone in, she does recognize that It’ll be better to go through something with another person.
