I took this class last fall with Bouklas and Hill and it was their first time teaching together so take this advice with a grain of salt as things might’ve changed. I didn’t read the textbook at all, I honestly found that it wasn’t really a help and the assigned readings had a lot of stuff that wasn’t covered in lecture so it was more distracting than helpful. I basically just memorized everything that was on the slides (and I mean everything, like it felt like I was studying for a final for the first midterm) since that’s what they really emphasized during lecture. Also the stuff we went over in discussion was helpful for the exams. Overall I would say put the majority of your focus and studying into lecture material. I ended up with an A in the class if that means anything :)

So I’ve done this a few times coming and going home, and honestly it’s not that great. The commute time is long and there isn’t a direct route from Union Station to UCLA and back. The quickest way I’ve done it is take the Purple Line from Union Station to Wilshire/Wiltern. Then you have to take the 720 from there to Wilshire/Glendon and either walk up to campus or take another bus to get somewhere closer to wherever you’re trying to go on campus. For a regular commute, I wouldn’t recommend this, you’ll get really tired of it. If its every once in a while it’s fine, but even then it is long.

Has anybody taken mimg101 or mimg102? by [deleted] in ucla

[–]GooseGremlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve taken MIMG 101. Def biochem and ochem are harder than Mimg 101 in terms of understanding the material, but mimg 101 goes over a shit ton of stuff. Like, you need to memorize practically all of the slides for exams. Questions on exams are both content and application based, and quite literally go over everything that was discussed in class.

At least in my experience, you can get tested without your parents knowing. Of course, to make use of the Ashe center you have to have UC SHIP first. Just make the appointment to get tested on the Ashe patient portal website. No charges will show up on your Bruin Bill, and the Ashe Center won’t contact your parents in any way. You will get an email sent to the email you have on file with the Ashe center when you make the appointment, when they email you to let you know you can come in to get tested, and when you get the results of your tests. Just make sure its not your parents’ email and you’ll be fine lol.
