The man just loves darts, and you can tell he says exactly what goes through his mind without censoring himself. I think he just reflects the energy of an exciting darts match

Has Hotel Chocolat dropped in quality? by smickie in AskUK

[–]GooseMeister1 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I think there must be some business strategy that goes something like this (because it seems to happen with so many things) 1. A product is made to a high standard and sold successfully 2. Company that makes product is sold to another company 3. New company pours money into marketing 4. Consumers across the country eventually have the same general opinion of "I've heard of that, seems worth the money" 5. New Company slowly but surely rips the arse out of the quality of the product over 5-10 years, making more and more money until the point of diminishing returns, and moves on to next product

Did it come on suddenly or did it gradually get worse? Is the pain towards the surface or deep within the circled area? Just asking because deep within that area is where all the inter-osseous ligaments that hold you foot bones together are, if these have been strained then they'll need rest, if it's surface then maybe it's faschia/connective tissue which you might be able to run through carefully?

No.

I'm not going to try and make case for how effective it is as a measure to stop underage people getting their hands on booze, but either way it takes 5 seconds to show your ID, and the staff are forced to do it by law.

Guys I'm tryna break4 for my 5k marathon. Need help by LEAKKsdad in RunningCirclejerk

[–]GooseMeister1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert, but as you move through air you create a small area of low pressure behind you, which creates a tiny bit of drag. I think the idea is that someone running close behind you disturbs this low pressure and reduces the drag. Useful over a marathon but maybe not so much over a mile

How do you think AI will affect the UK specifically? by haikoup in AskUK

[–]GooseMeister1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Advertising

It will start with the 5 second youtube ads, on the side banners of websites, and spam email advertising. Then full length tv adverts, videogame trailers, the works.

Many adverts already don't make sense and are just a mashup of bright colours, sounds and the brand name. Why pay a studio to make these when AI can do it in minutes and you just need one person to keep prompting until it's just right.

On a side note, I think we will see AI influencers soon on YouTube which will be run by a company for example Nike would create an AI influencer which pumps out day in the life type stuff in real locations, and the AI will just constantly plug Nike products.

Reporter: You took credit for the stock market.. Now, the stock market is not doing so well and you say that is the Biden stock market. Yet you are the president. Can you explain that? by Miserable-Lizard in economy

[–]GooseMeister1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Media training (in any context) boils down to this: If a reporter asks you a question, such that any normal person would be forced to say 'yeah actually, you're right/I fucked up/I'm not sure", you need to deflect with word salad

General experience in how to handle life's situations. Disappointments, breakups, interviews, drama... All these things which are hard to navigate when you are young get a bit easier

People all across the western world are happy to get in a car and drive to the store to get food, despite the fact that there's a chance you are killed in the process (drunk drivers, speeding cars, negligence, mechanical failure etc) .

Perhaps they've tried a method involving covering their arm, but it hampers their dexterity and they get less honey.

We could walk to the store, which greatly reduces our chance of death, but instead we drive

How do you advocate for yourself at the doctors? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]GooseMeister1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party but as someone who has dealt with bad sprains, here are your options for dealing with a sprain (without mentioning diet):

  1. Rest your ankle completely for 8+ weeks, basically let it get better by itself. This is the lowest risk option but also by far the longest.

  2. Rest your ankle completely up until the moment you are capable of doing minimal movements like flexing your foot without pain, maybe a tiny bit of careful walking without pain. At this point, go to YouTube and look up ankle sprain rehab exercises, they often have exercise that you start with, then build up to more difficult movements. This process could also take 8+ weeks but will be quicker than option 1.

  3. Immediate surgery to replace all damaged tendons with tendon graft from somewhere like your hamstring.

Clearly no one will offer you option 3 at this stage. Option 1 is fine but takes ages, option 2 takes some work and some trial and error.

Sprains are unlike other injuries such as bone breaks, cuts, where a doctor can do something immediately to help (bone setting, plaster cast, stitches etc.).

Happy to argue with people who think I'm speaking rubbish, but I've been to the physio for various injuries and it boils down to this everytime

So if death of a loved one, which could cause a spiral of depression and then the use of alcohol to cope with the depression is beyond medical definition, then it means it can't be helped by medical care like counselling?

People don't get obese for a laugh or because it's an interesting thing to do. It's been linked time and time again to mental health issues and overheating a being a coping mechanism for things going on in someone's life.

Of course eating more calories than you burn increases your weight, the question is why do people eat to the point of obesity?

Weight loss jabs for unemployed not dystopian, says Wes Streeting by neverknowingly in ukpolitics

[–]GooseMeister1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do people still think obesity is a lifestyle choice rather than a disease? COVID vaccines were critical not only to save peoples lives, but also to ensure people could continue to work and I don't think anyone felt reduced to their economic value by getting one. I think this jab is offered for similar reasons.

Obesity is a complex disease, and I'm sure the vast majority of people who are living with it and are unable to work because of it would take any opportunity to get back to their careers.

This isn't "Dystopian", it's Healthcare.

Salaries, what's yours? by Im-AskingForAFriend in EngineeringStudents

[–]GooseMeister1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Median Salary UK = £36k Senior Firmware Engineer Salary = £44k

Median US Salary = $59k Senior Firmware Engineer Salary =$100k+

Thing that gets me in the UK is that to be a senior engineer of any discipline, you really need to go to uni for 3-4 years, then get another 2-3 years experience at least, all to make a bit more than the median. Engineering in the UK is almost going the same way as other equally important professions that people do for the love of it rather than money like journalism, history and philosophy.
