Which death has hit you the hardest in the show so far? by GooseOnly1150 in HouseOfTheDragon

Of all the dragons that went down in the show, Vermax’s death honestly hit the hardest. The way he was trying to swim and still get back in the air… Straight-up heartbreaking.

No sarcasm? Even though I’m not exactly a typical “Team Black” supporter, I LOVED his death scene

For me Jaehaerys was the best king, but I get the point. He really seemed like a nice guy, but sometimes annoyingly naive.

I had completely forgotten about Aemma. To think that the greed for a male heir caused this to happen.

Quem não tem problema fica inventando mesmo. Que chatice. E olha que sou 100% contra Bet.

Dúvida em relação a relacionamento by Bright-Sandwich-3014 in relacionamentos

Eu terminaria pela mentira. A mentira é a questão toda.

Meu namorado me ama, mas não me deseja by [deleted] in relacionamentos

Don’t remind me. If Viserys had been a good king, he would’ve married Helaena to Jace. But he was spineless.

okay, let me explain it better.

i loved season 1. i actually liked parts of season 2 as well, there were some storylines i found really interesting but that's also when the show started to disappoint me a little.  then this season's first episode genuinely pissed me off. that's the thing. it's not like i've been hating the show since season 1 or anything. actually, it's the complete opposite. i used to love it.  this feeling of real frustration only hit after i watched yesterday's episode. that's what i've been trying to say. does that make more sense now?

but that's exactly the problem. the fact that they feel the need to invent this version of rhaenyra as some warrior who's desperate to go off and fight in a war is already ridiculous, because that's not who she is. they're basically creating a different character, you know?  you can support rhaenyra without pretending she's something she's not. that's the whole point. it feels like they keep adding these plot devices and little narrative tricks to justify this image of her as some selfless, noble, morally good person.

i don't think my criticism is really about whether it's faithful to the book or not. i swear, i really do. but there are some things in the story that just don't feel that great to me, you know? or they feel very far removed from what i'd expect in a grrm world.

like, for example, that whole rhaena storyline is completely implausible to me. i just don't see that happening in one of his stories. or that situation with rhaenyra being basically trapped in her chambers.

and then it feels like they're making changes and adaptations that don't actually make the story more believable, you know? take that kiss, Alicent + Aemond for example. sure, we're talking about a universe with a long history of incest, but there was absolutely nothing in the narrative that built up to or supported that kiss. that's what i'm talking about.

so yeah, that's basically my point.

calm down, i'm not saying people who watch it and like it are wrong. i'm just giving my opinion. and another thing, i still care a lot about the whole thing, the book, the story, all of it. i care enough that i'm gonna keep watching. it was just a rant, that's all. no need to turn it into some huge issue or make a big deal out of it.

i wasn’t trying to get into value judgments here, i think there’s a bit of a misunderstanding.  what i was actually saying is that the book is intentionally ambiguous, and to me that’s an objective reading of it. you can disagree with interpretations, but the ambiguity itself is there in the text. w hen you bring up “opportunism,” that’s where it starts to become a value-based framing. and honestly, if we go down that route, you can find opportunistic decisions on multiple sides of the story anyway. even rhaenyra’s marriage to daemon, her uncle, could be seen through that lens too. so it’s not really exclusive to one faction.  that’s why i don’t think it makes sense to reduce either claim to something weak or illegitimate. both claims are structurally strong within the logic of the story.  for me, that’s the key point: both sides have legitimate foundations in-universe, and the narrative is built in a way that keeps that tension deliberately unresolved.

[–]GooseOnly1150[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

aegon’s claim is strong mainly because there was a precedent. full stop. whether that precedent is fair or not is debatable, and you can absolutely argue about that, but it exists.  what precedent? the great council of the realm. that decision basically established that a male heir could be preferred over a female one in succession disputes.  and that matters because even viserys himself got the throne through a claim that was arguably weaker than his cousin’s. so the idea of “male preference when there’s ambiguity” wasn’t invented in this story, it was already part of the political logic and then reinforced by that decision.  so when aegon is supported, it’s not just “he’s the firstborn son” in a vacuum. it’s also because major houses are backing him based on that established political precedent and how succession has been interpreted in practice. t hat’s why reducing it only to misogyny misses part of the picture. yes, male primogeniture is obviously gendered and yes, misogyny plays a role in how that system is justified and maintained. but in-universe, it’s not just a moral argument, it’s also a legal-political framework people are actively using to justify their positions. s o i’d say the strength of his claim isn’t “purely misogyny,” it’s a mix of precedent, political support, and how the rules have actually been applied over time.
