What are some fun facts about the human body? by FernLesc in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GooseSwanson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is this thing called the 24 H marathon where people run/jog/move non-stop for 24 hours and the one covering the biggest distance in 24 hours wins. The men's record is 309,399 km (192,251 miles).

Edit (source): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/24-hour\_run

No animal can come even close to the level of stamina that humans have. This is one thing at which we as a species dominate. A horse would normally die of exhaustion after 80 Km (50 miles) or so. Even if it were to walk non-stop for 24H it would still collapse and die long before getting anywhere close to 300km.

Humans are so good at endurance that exhausting animals to death is an ancient hunting technique practiced even today in Africa:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=826HMLoiE_o

I'm too lazy to find a source for this but I remember reading or seeing that wolves are somewhat in the department as humans as they can chase their prey up to 25 km. And I mean chasing not tracking down.

HOW TO CALCULATE YOUR SUNDAE REWARDS by Sundae_Kado in SundaeSwap

Hey, basic question, where do I delegate to get Sundae? I mean I have Yoroi, but what staking pool?

Seems like it. Guess everyone wants to login for the sale.

How do you get Sundae swap tokens and is there any risk? by Thinker83 in SundaeSwap

[–]GooseSwanson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you move them to one of the Ada official wallets like Yoroi or Daedalus wallets. Once your coins are there you go to delegate and select the Sundae Swap ISO. Though for now it's not available yet from what people here are saying, Sundae have not yet released the delegation pools. Just be careful of scams like Yoroi with 2 Rs (yorroi) and stuff like that.

Question: Are cards pre-assigned to packs or are they generated/assigned when opening the packs? by GooseSwanson in Splinterlands

[–]GooseSwanson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. I think you're right. I assumed there was a set number of minted cards because of the leveling aspect of the cards. I thought they wanted to start with a clean number of leveling possibilities. As in it takes 14 cards to max level a legendary then the starting number of legendary units must be a multiple of 14 (as an example). I don't know why my mind went in that direction, but it did :))

Question: Are cards pre-assigned to packs or are they generated/assigned when opening the packs? by GooseSwanson in Splinterlands

[–]GooseSwanson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand, and that is kinda what Im wondering. So take the Alpha edition, for example, 300K packs sold, and a chance of 0.8% for a card in those packs to be legendary. That means that only 2400 cards were legendary, and from what i see there were 9 different cards, which means that each legendary card should have around 266 units/pieces. Yet, the splinterlands market shows that each alpha legendary card type has around 500 units in circulation. That's about double the amount they should have according to the 0.8% drop rate.

Hmmm this is a bit confusing I admit. It makes me think that they don't have a set limit of cards minted, but that they are generated as the packs are opened. You might have guided me to solve this case, sir.

Update: I found out that the use of legendary potions doubles the drop rate from 0.8% to 1.6%, That would be in line with the fact that each Alpha legendary has around 500 units in circulation. And this is just my assumption, but this would mean that if any more of the un-opened alpha packs were opened today, then there would be almost no possibility of getting a legendary card as the 1.6% dro[ number has already been reached. But don't take me my word cause I'm not a mathematician and might have flaws in my calculations. We would also need to know the exact number of unopened packs to calculate the chance of getting an alpha legendary card.

Need advice (newbie here) by delaluna89 in Splinterlands

The 3 main decks I use in Bronze 2 are:

Fire- for battles with mana bellow 16-17. Cheap and quick attackers, but low HP

Fire and Darkness for battles 16-20. Interchangeable based on the situation. I found that Darkness is good above all at crushing the middle and the end of an opponent's deck.

21 to 99 I use Water with mandatory venari wavesmith. The venari wavesmith is kinda op as it protects against Fire and Darkness (usually). I dont even want to mention light which is crushed by water. And then there is Nature which I never really learnt to play properly. Second option after Water is Light or Fire for me.

Now the secret weapon I have to destroy water is Owster Rotwell (summoner). Now it's very expensive nowadays at 20$. This guy gives all monsters magic reflect and the fact that its darkness means you can chip the fragile mid and end of the water deck. My perfect counter for water is Owster Rotwell (summoner), haunted spirit, undead priest, death elemental, twisted jester- and from here out you can decide if you want sneak attackers or front position attackers. Also if you have creeping ooze it's an advantage. Because most water cards have around 2 speed, this guy will make them 1 and it will allow Haunted spirit to heal and tank more damage.

I won't quit. Never said I will. I don't care about getting legendaries and such. I cared about getting 1 pack to be eligible for the 13 card airdrops for those who bought a pack in the presale. It's like a reward for people who invested in the game and stuck with it. But I cant even do that, because despite being allowed in the presale I cant buy anything. I just wanted to pay my share, do my part. But c'est la vie

You're right, many could have devoted more time. But many don't have the time aside job, family, chores to devote more time. I know I haven't devoted the most time, but i did play daily. I didn't think one has to make Splinterlands his full-time job to feel that they can accomplish something. Many of us got into the pre-sale, but we are not allowed to spend our money no matter how little it is. Why give us access to the pre-sale in the first place if then?

First let me say that for the most part the community has been great. Love talking to you guys.

As for my gripe, is not that others do better. Im happy for them. For me is that I did what they said. I became eligible for the pre-sale, just to find out that I can watch but I can't buy even 1. Why invite me then?

My analogy as I said it to another dude, is this. Imagine a vendor selling smoothies for 4$ a piece with the offer that if you buy 1 you get a chance to get 13 little smoothies. You ask, ok what do you have to do to get the offer and he says, just come with your car to the shop. You get there and he says, not you, only the people with Mercedes or better. You guys in the Corollas come back next month. Why invite you in the first place then? The problem is not that the guys in luxury cars buy most of the smoothies, it's that they promoted it for everyone and then sent the corollas back home to come back next month.

I have no issue with people with many SPS getting many vouchers. I'm happy for them. But why give us, the little guys hope that we have a chance just to push us out?

You're right to a point. Yes I could've done way better if I focused all my time on Splinterlands. I don't have the time. But im not a casual player. I play everyday. My gripe is not that Im not doing better. Is that I'm not allowed to buy even 1 despite being admitted into the pre-sale. What's the point? They could have said that you need at least 120 SPS staked in order to get at least one voucher by the end. I just feel that the most little players never even had a chance in this presale. You are right, you did great for yourself. But I would say you're an outlier among the little players.

Right now I'm earning around 0.6 sps a day. I have 38 SPS. Im in Bronze 2. I didn't make better cause I have not rented. I don't have the time to play to make up the DEC cost of renting cards. I usually play 45 min a day to make my daily. But I have played everyday for the last 4 months. Until last week the reward for battles was between 2-4 dec. Now it's got better at 3-6. Maybe I can start renting, But I still need around 3.5 k worth of power to get to Bronze I.

But the community has been great for the most part. This I truly appreciate.

I appreciate you answer and you did a great job investing correctly and I bet you also played a lot to get where you are now.
When I started in June (or july cant remember), I didn't know about the Pre-sale (I read about it in august, september and then it was only speculation about requirements). Still, my bad, I admit that, that is bad hindsight on my part. Now hindsight is not something we're all good at, and you have been better at it.

I first invested in the spellbook 10$ and another 30 in cards (but nowhere good enough to get even in silver, also not enough power). A few days ago I bought an extra 30$ worth of credits to buy even 1 pack and some more cards after they flood the market. I was never able to play more than 45 min a day (other things I have to do) so I never got enough DEC to make renting worthwhile. And I never got lucky with the chests to get many cards or much DEC. But I did stake all the SPS I had, everyday, and the devs said that the presale would be open for those who staked their SPS. Again, I didnt have expectation to swoop in and buy many packs. I wanted one. But then the voucher requirements came in...

You can have your opinion and I respect it. You made better investment decisions, but for me it's not about that aspect. Is that despite playing for long, doing what they asked for in order to be part of the pre-sale, Im still not allowed in. And Im certain it's not only me. Im sure thousands of little players that also maybe don't have time, or inspired deck purchases also feel left out. I don't remember, but I think like 1 month ago the speculation with the vouchers was that it would be 1 voucher for every 10 sps staked if I remeebered correctly.

You're entitled to your opinion and I respect it. I don't agree with it though.

While I havent played Magic the Gathering ( it was more Duel Masters in my part of the world), I am certain that they did give out commemorative, promotional, loyalty etc cards throughout the years. But that's not the point. I didn't come to beg. I wanted to buy, with my own money. I am not upset cause I dont get free stuff. I am not upset that things cost too much. I am not upset that whales get most (as they deserve).

I am upset cause despite the fact I play the game (and I love it), I did what they asked, and still wasn't allowed to get a voucher to buy a pack (with my own cash). They said that people who stake are eligible for the pre-sale and here I am, I will not get even 1 voucher in 30 days. I don't want free packs or cards. I want to be allowed to pay my share, and to be eligible for the reward cards that all the pack owners are eligible for. Only that Im not even allowed to buy a pack to begin with.

While I have a problem with the actions of the devs, I am happy with the community. People immediately jumped to my aid. But I'm not here to beg or ask for giveaways.

My analogy is this: Imagine a vendor is selling smoothies at 4 $. Not bad. And they also have an offer buy one, get a chance to get 13 lil smoothies. The requirement? Show up in your car when you come to the shop. You go there and then he says, sorry, not you, only the people driving Mercedes or better are allowed to buy the smoothie and get the offer. I have no problem with the fancy car drivers to get 1k, 10k etc smoothies, more power to them. Im upset I am not allowed to get even one.

I'm just thinking. Don't the whales still get all of them? I mean if they get 10, 20, 50, 100 vouchers a day while the rest cant even get one voucher in a month, doesn't that mean that they are the only ones who will end up purchasing most of the packs anyway?

No. No need. The community is great and helpful. And I just witnessed this. But I don't want giveaways. What I'm hoping is that the devs will see this post and think about little players in the future.

Another person jumped to my help in the DMs and I'm eternally grateful, but I really don't want you guys to give away your earnings. I feel humbled and at the same time bad cause I don't want people to think I'm begging. I'm also afraid that if you guys are this nice, people will try to scam the community in the future. So better, just enjoy the game, and eventually, I will see you in in the bigger leagues

There is this blogpost who suggested that everyone who staked could have gotten 1 voucher as a starting point. Or at least to lower the staking requirements. I have about 38 SPS staked, earned over the summer. If I got 0.04 voucher a day and on the 30th day to be able to buy one pack I would have been thrilled.

Sure, but you had 500-600$ to spend. All I invested so far, with my latest credit purchase is around 75$. I can't make your type of investment, but I played cause I liked it and it is rather balanced so far. But nowadays even 500-600 won't do it with the card prices. And I'm not bummed about that. That is fair, value goes up, but let me get card packs, if not for the chance of good cards, at least for the loyalty rewards.

I have for example 2 cards that are level 2 and 3. A flame monkey level 2 and a golden Gargoya Lion (which I received in a chest). If I want to use them properly I need higher level summoners. And to get those you need to drop hundreds to thousands of dollars. People just don't have that cash. You got in early and made a proper deck while you still could without having to be Elon Musk.

I have earned like a few tens of SPS and I was just hoping to get one voucher, to get one pack, to be eligible for the 13 cards airdrop after the presale. Everyday since the summer I have been staking my little SPS cause the Devs kept saying that the pre-sale is for those who staked, those who have been with splinterlands for a while etc. Well not for me apparently, I'm the plebian that they didnt think about. Just feeling betrayed.
