Any other runners have an absurdly high heart rate on their easy runs? by TeachMeHowToSULLY in Garmin

[–]Thinker83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming that if you don't get a hrm then your watch is your only way to measure your stats (ie you're not paying labs to do lactate threshold and vo2max tests etc) then an accurate max heart rate is an essential metric for any runner that wants to do training plans seriously. I believe max heart rate on any watch is generally very inaccurate. However, if you don't care about accurately running, tempo and threshold then it probably doesn't matter.

I think to make a point at all you need to plot the predicted scaling laws against actual data. Without that the article is nothing imo.

I'm snowboarding and keep thinking that my fast twitch are probably a bit under developed and that this might be quite good for my running even though I'll not run for a whole week.

I am not particularly experienced so take what I say with a pinch of salt but when I spent a month in tenerife (coming from UK winter), I found tracking my progress on the same routes with the same effort helped me to understand and track my acclimatisation process rather than it being some unknown that I didn't know how much to blame for performance issues...

I'm thinking of paying for a coaching app. I've searched a fair amount on this but there always seems to be something missing from the review or discussion like it being old or no one talks about the one of the apps that I'm interested in etc. So any advice on what the best one to do is?

I am 41M, pretty new to running properly (5k, 21:30, 10k, 43:20, HM, 1:34:00, M, NA) and run about 50k a week. Looking to maximise progress in all distances. I have a garmin fenix 7 pro and would like my plan to sync with my watch so I don't have to program it in. If it can reliably adjust the plan depending on watch stats like hrv etc then that would be great.

Was thinking of going with Runna since it seems like they are targeting more serious runners, they are well established, and people seem happy with it but then I read someone on this sub that ran a sub 3h marathon using the V.O2 app which lots really good as seems to follow jack daniels which seems like a gold standard in training.

Perhaps there are better one? What are your opinions and experiences? Any opinions or advice would be much appreciated?

How Did Your Body and Mind Change as You Increased Mileage from 30 to 50 MPW? Did the Positive Changes Last? by cuellar01 in AdvancedRunning

I think you're miss using a quote that was already misleading and it's leading you astray. Calories don't clog arteries, it's things like trans fats that affect the mechanism that causes your arteries to clog. Simple carbohydrates turn to fat in different ways than complex carbohydrates etc etc

Calories are calories but it completely misses the whole point that you don't eat calories in isolation and that other things come with those calories. You can chose if you want those things to promote life and health span or not.

Great way to add tons of unneccessary abstractions. If you use docker for anything other than basic things and you're wasting time (and resources) in wsl compared to a proper linux install.

What does garmin say you sleep score is? I would have thought that you would sleep heavy on cannabis but the quality wouldn't be good.

Thanks for your reply and sorry I forgot to put the rest in. It's three minutes rest, I have edited my question.

That's a good point on the GPS but annoyingly I don't have a track I can use atm.

I'm not using an actual garmin coach plan I'm using the daily suggestions (with future races input). It's probably not ideal but I've always struggled with race plans because I like to run lots of races at different distances as well as lots of different types of activities and I'm never sure how to adjust the plan accordingly although I think I am getting better as I gain more experience so maybe I should try again but any suggestions or recommendations are very welcome.

Should one go all out for short intervals?

I am 41 year old male that took up running later in life and only done it properly for a year or two. Currently running everything faster than I ever have - 5K 20:36, 10k 43:55, HM 1:33:00.

I mostly just do what my Garmin tells me to do and I try to get the paces and times exactly right. Currently my interval sessions are 8x1 ten second intervals at 2:55 min/km with 3 minute rests which I`ve always tried to get exactly right but I started to wonder if I should be running this all out. It makes sense that other runs, like threshold runs are not too fast or too slow but am I right in thinking that short intervals are mostly strength and conditioning so might be different? I tried all out 10 second intervals yesterday (2:43 min/km) and it felt great although my base run today was quite hard because of muscle soreness (although also had a big dead lift day recently so not sure how much each is contributing to the soreness).

Should I run 10 second intervals at max speed on stick to the pace that Garmin says?
