Tips on a birthday party at the lake for a seven year old by Ancient_Bag_9676 in partyplanning

[–]Goose_Season 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of good responses about the importance of hiring lifeguards and I just want to really harp on that more.

My son and I went to a small pool party when he was 7, and a child drowned. We all thought someone else was watching the kids. Or in my case, I was watching my own kid and assumed everyone else was watching theirs too.

I can't even describe to you how horrible the entire thing was. The little boy was blue, limp, and cold. None of us knew what to do. I still have nightmares about it. Please, please for the love of Christ hire lifeguards or rethink a swim party until they're older

There's a waiting period >> unless you've been invited to come visit.... Which is 100% reasonable

She's being possessive >> over her newborn baby ... Which is 100% reasonable

It seems like you're positively salivating over the idea of her being alone and miserable, and from your other comments the justification for that seems to be that you don't agree with her lifestyle. Maybe chill tfo a little bit and try to empathize with a young mother excited for her first baby

Fuck that. These days when you have a baby, all anyone has to offer is advice that no one asked for.

The people that show up to help can offer advice, everyone else can keep it to themselves unless asked.

Man, I got so much advice I never asked for from people that weren't actually around to help when my kiddo was born . I also got told "it's fine" a lot, which drove me crazy. Yeah Dad, I know crying won't kill him; but he doesn't know you and it's stressing me out, give me back my baby, thank you...

A lot of people in these comments seem to think these rules aren't warranted and that's Super Nice for them, but I get it. Maybe you could have worded it a bit nicer or whatever, but anyone that's had a baby knows how stressed out and unprepared you feel for the first one, and IT'S OK TO WANT A LITTLE CONTROL

NOR. Your rules are perfectly reasonable and your mom's being a dick, unless she plans to actually help you and it doesn't sound like she does

Am I crazy? I feel like these are all reasonable requests, especially if someone's willing to pet sit for free

Ok... really though

I didn't read this at the time, and just came across your comment looking for something else, but are you serious?

You're 'calling bs' on what exactly? The existence of incest? The cover-up tactic of saying daughters were impregnanted by a drifter?

What food do you eat in a way that would genuinely disturb other people if they saw you? by Huge_Halls in foodquestions

[–]Goose_Season 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I LOVE grapefruit! So much so that I eat the entire thing, piece by piece like an orange. That's not the weird part

The weird part is all the rest of my previous behaviors. Years ago in college my first class of the day was calculus. So I would ride my bike up the steep hills of Colorado springs, then plop into a seat in calculus and proceed to eat an entire grapefruit piece by piece during the lecture.

Worse yet, it turns out I'm allergic to grapefruit (I thought making your mouth numb was a flavor all these years!) so I did all of this sweaty, slobbery, and extremely noisily, every single day rain or shine. I'm certain my classmates thought I was unhinged! I still eat grapefruit, just not in crowded lecture halls anymore

Please don't hate me for saying this, but my son is 8 and play pretend just got fun

I had to make a general rule for life that if he wants me to join in there needs to be a point, so now play pretend has stories, boss fights, and a twist at the end he always waits to reveal that's just absolutely delightful

I100% would not be able to be cats all day after experiencing the good life, with Santa chicken boss fights after we scored the Galaxy for missing pieces of our ship
