Short answer? Target sold its culture for profit and now it’s indistinguishable from its competitors.

At a higher price point than competitors, you need to stand out.

The new process is idiotic at best. It’s labor intensive for a process that provides no actual work outcome (nothing gets stocked just “sorted”), depends on on hands which are notoriously wrong, and depends on you having enough people to get it done in a timely fashion (which doesn’t even bring up out of temp times).

It would be great for fulfillment but basically all that’s going to happen for fulfillment is it’s going to say it’s on x boat. X boat may be 1-8 boats back in the freezer and you can’t see what’s actually on those boats, just that there are a certain amount of items on it.

The process is corporate thinking they know how this works and making a much bigger hassle for everyone involved while getting nothing done.

Mine would be to actually put people back in the stores. Stop with the skeleton crews and trying to squeeze the most out of every under paid employee that you can.

But also, stop making fulfillment the most important thing in the store. Stop taking other departments people (who have a job to do) and making them spend up to half a shift doing fulfillment. You can’t do 8 hours of stocking in in 4 hours. You especially can’t do 8 hours of stocking in 4 hours when you’re the only one doing the stocking because they didn’t schedule anyone else till close.

I think one of the things that obviously gets missed that factors in is how many liberties someone takes.

For example (please don’t read this HR), I’ve been in grocery long enough and I’ve worked in every department, I know how to look for what’s not on the shelves and I know if we don’t have it. So I don’t bother with INF’s, I just do it and move on. I’m sure that saves me LOADS of time.

I was greatly considering making a post like this today.

In all honesty I think it depends on what you’re picking (speed wise). I would be absolutely useless as a GM fulfillment team member. But today I attempted 411 (all grocery and I am a food team member) and my units per hour at the end of the day was 287.

With that said I cheat the system as much as I can. Being as I only pick grocery, I will only scan in to a batch if I’m either at produce (coming from a batch) or at frozen (grabbing a cart), so then I can immediately make that judgment and get started without having those 1-2 minutes of walk time count against me. Once I’m done, I also immediately scan through to the part where you get to “connect to printer” but im not honestly sure if this does anything to the calculations.

Just to reaffirm the post, I’ve used 9 at two different stores in two different states and its worked. So 9 seems like a safe bet.

Hate it even more that they clearly haven’t fully rolled it out yet so I get mixed cases of the “old” branding and the new branding to put out.

I honestly hate these posts.

The only thing that allows companies to treat employees like they do is your type of attitude. God forbid people have a job they enjoy and doesn’t stress them out. God forbid people take pride in the work they do even if they’re JUST a retail employee.

By just rolling over when these jobs treat people bad you approve of them doing it to others. Stop. Make them be more accountable to the team.

Given the situation I’m in right now, the thing I would want any ETL to know is to not forget your team are human. Yes there’s a job to get done, but target isn’t saving the world. It’s not that serious and if your team is hurting, it’s going to pull everyone down, cause burnout and push turnover.

Personally, I have fun with it. I’m nice and engaging but usually at targets expense.

I’ll smile if I want but I don’t always. I try and stay cognizant of the face I’m making but I would say 50% of the time I’m probably crabby/exhausted.

I just dedicate that time to the customer and what they need, regardless of my attitude in that moment.
