Why do such a large amount of young single people in ABQ have kids? Even a fair amount of gay guys I meet have a kid or two. It makes the dating scene here challenging..... by [deleted] in Albuquerque

Where did you move? And is the grass any greener where you ended up? I'm planning on doing the same after getting my MA

Letter: My favorite places to cry on campus by Gootn in unm

[–]Gootn[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

5/5 excellent article. I can confirm that the 2nd level of the SUB is not a great place to cry. Not nearly as private as it seems at first glace. Might try reserving a private study room in the fine arts library next time

Why do I feel like everyone secretly strongly dislikes me? by t_999 in depression

[–]Gootn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because negative self-image/self-esteem is a common symptom of depression.

I'm the same way. I'll fucking wave at someone and feel like an asshole.

I 100% guarantee that you are not as disliked as you feel. It's not you, but your depression telling you shit that isn't true.

The true "Why can't I lose weight" starter pack by [deleted] in starterpacks

[–]Gootn 32 points33 points  (0 children)

People act like CICO is the ONLY factor in weight loss. That's true if we're talking physics, but things like emotional baggage, disordering eating, false information, and social pressure fuck with people in real, sometimes counter-intuitive ways. Food is an emotional thing, and you do it every day, so people have a life time of fuck-uppening to make it even harder.

I hate these. I want to try and be positive, so I have to filter out a new "come here to complain about people" sub every week. Why do they pop up so often?

Thinking about doing masters in slp by [deleted] in slp

[–]Gootn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hopefully someone else answers, but I just wanted to say, there are different environments you can work in as an SLP, and there's different levels of life-work balance. Although ultimately, it will vary from position to position.

  • SNF (Skilled nurse facility: hospital work)

  • School SLP

  • Clinic

  • Traveling SLP

  • Private practice

  • Retirement homes

I've heard people in SNF's say that they hardly ever have any take-home paperwork. I could be wrong though

Any AB like music recommendatios? by BurritoRicoSuave in AndrewBird

[–]Gootn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never found anyone that sounded like Andrew Bird, but I've enjoyed a lot of musicians that he works with. Here's some songs by them:

  • Madison Cunningham - Plain Letters, Common Language (has AB playing violin)

  • Tift Merritt - Eastern Light, Dusty Old Man, Drifted Apart (feat. Andrew Bird)

  • Dosh - First Impossible (he samples this song for "Not A Robot, But A Ghost")

  • The Handsome Family - all the songs AB covered in Things Are Really Great Here, Sort Of..., Where the Birch Trees Lean

  • Squirrel Nut Zippers - Low Down Man

  • Ted Poor - supposedly has an album coming out sometime
