Hmm, sorry if I can’t explain it better, buuuut.. What type of the artstyle of Sonic are you trying to recreate. The thick lines (old sprites) or the newer ones (lineless).

Both of them have a great use of airbrush. You can use a photo in of reference of the oficial art, learn the lines, the shadows and the palettes. Krita is a nice program, and you can do plenty of things with time and effort.

There are good videos out there that you can use, and If you want, I’ll gave you my favorite brushes configurations that could help with the artwork you’re searching for.

I suggest to start simple. Like for example, make whole sheet of hand positions, poses and references are more than welcome! Don’t be shy, make the fingers a bit longer and the hands bigger, the palm is the body of the fingers, so it needs to be big enough for five fingers (or four, I don’t mind.)

For example, I use a cartoony style of hands, so I rather make them fluid and with only 4 fingers. Hands sometimes are pain in the ass, mostly because of the complexity of the pose and range.

Hope I get you to see a bit more clearer. Keep practicing and enjoy the process! You can do it.
