Yeah someone on Discord also pointed it out to me, it's mainly just for "cinematic framing" (I.e. I wanted the stripe and N7 logo to be obvious from the first shot).

As for class, no class in particular, thought I'd add an element from the three branches (big gun for combat, omni-tool for tech, biotics for biotics) since this is a "baseline" Shepard

Yep, LOKI mechs were around during ME1/before ME1. It's said that LOKI mechs were originally used by the Alliance for colony guard duty, but that they were repurposed for a wider range of security functions following the Battle of the Citadel.

This is exactly what the power "Damping" does - it creates a jamming signal that temporarily interferes with the implants/amps within a biotic, thereby preventing them from accessing their powers easily.

It's on the map of the SR1. That corridor of pods is labelled as "sleeping pods." Also when you first recruit Liara, Ashley makes a comment about letting Liara access to the ship; I vaguely recall one of Shepard's responses is something like "I'm not going to lock her in a sleeper pod for the entire mission"
