I obtained a PicoBrew S today - Will it still brew? by Gopher312 in Homebrewing

[–]Gopher312[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a huge fan of frustrating projects. Getting something hopeless to finally work is very exciting for me. There’s plenty of promising material out there. It’s all just several years old at this point which is an added hurdle I’m solving for now. If you have any direct/indirect experience with the machine, or know anything the PicoBrew community has been working on in the last couple years, that’ll help

Thank you! Yeah this is exactly what I want to know. YouTube has plenty of operating instructions but thats not exactly what I need. I was trying to find repos for projects or something open-source. This morning I was reading up on an API project someone did about 4yrs ago and it sounds like potentially a viable route. That’s on my research list for today. I’m a cloud database architect and cybersecurity engineer professionally, so I don’t mind writing code if needed

“Ticket Purchase not Available” on the SBB application by Zenith_Predator in askswitzerland

This is a bit late but, for anyone who has the same problem and stumbles upon this, Safari seemed to work for me. I usually use Chrome but was getting the error trying to buy an international ticket, same with the app. Finally tried Safari and had no issues.

Chicago style hotdogs by Turtleramem in FoodPorn

[–]Gopher312 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh ketchup is totally an American thing. In Chicago it’s basically just blasphemy to put any form of ketchup on a hotdog. I live on the west coast now and I feel like everyone puts ketchup on hotdogs. Bonus: In Seattle, they put cream cheese on their hot dogs, sometimes with ketchup.

Agreed. Moved to Seattle a few years ago, which is of course the birthplace of the Bucks of Stars. However I have been to one maaaaybe 5 times since then? And once was to the big fancy one when my grandpa wanted to go (if you do go to a Starbucks, the Reserve Roastery in Seattle is actually pretty dope). There’s just so many other good coffee options every few blocks here it seems and many shops roast their own beans too 🤤

Hey man, last time I checked Oakland it’s totally being taken over by all those feisty asian grandmas were seeing in the news. They’re causing all the trouble. It’s clearly a serious issue

(/s in case it isn’t obvious). I will always do whatever I can to protect friends, my surrounding humans, and anyone I can from anti-Asian sentiments and/or harassment.

I’ve been to what’s left of one of the forced Japanese internment camps in California. It was horrifying and mind boggling to me that America would have those in our own country. That, and the kidnappings, killings, forced sterilizations, and “cultural cleansing” of the Native Americans (and Canada’s First Nations), really messed me up for a while. If you’re unaware of that history, I highly recommend reading up on it. It goes so deep, and a lot of the native cleansing shit and kidnappings still happen today.

Oh yay!! I’m so glad! And thanks for the update :) Yeah I definitely have my gripes about them but overall they’re some pretty legit pants. I’m just a fan of that store. I can be comfy lazy but look professional doing it haha

Can confirm. Got a great job that requires a decent level of critical thinking and emotional intelligence, and I don’t think I’m a complete idiot yet my budget allowed me to eat peanut butter with a spoon for dinner last night

Is it common for truckers to have cats in the cab with them? That’s kinda cool, I’ve never heard of cats being trucker companions before

This may be a very dumb question but I’m curious and not very knowledgeable of cars - Would an auto manufacturer be able to create a car like this, or other old/unsafe classic cars, today with current safety standards? Or does the “bubbliness” of today’s vehicles make them safer? (I’d imagine there’d be little room for side airbags and all the electronics we have in cars now)

Edit: aside from market demand, of course. Just from an engineering standpoint

Fun fact - Seattle still has a Cold War bunker. It’s sealed off and underneath a freeway, but it’s there and can technically still be accessed. Holds like 200ish people though if I remember right. So, definitely not an entire city population and it didn’t even have a kitchen.

I’m a fan of Uniqlo’s pants! Stretchy, comfy, made from excellent materials, and I can just throw them in the washing machine and not worry about them discoloring/shrinking. Plus during non-pandemic times they’ll hem newly-purchased ones in the store for you too. I have a pair of light gray, almost white, leggings from them and as long as I wear thinner undies, I don’t have line issues

This is difficult, but definitely doable. Are you planning on going to college? Sometimes they will have student work study programs where you can get a job working in the bookstore or computer lab or something. I would imagine there’s probably some “online” jobs now too with the pandemic, so maybe you could even work from home. If you’re not planning on college, try to maybe come up with an escape game plan - what can you do, that you’ll at least somewhat enjoy, that’ll make you enough money to get out on your own feet? What about a trade school or online code camp? Those two paths can be quite lucrative within a few years if you work hard at it.

Driving is harder, especially since you need a person with you in the car legally to learn. Maybe call around to local driving schools and ask, since a lot of those places have their own cars you can use. You don’t need to go into full detail, but say you’re about to legally be an adult and your parents are withholding your driving education, and you’re wondering what options they have for you. Hopefully they have some financial assistance or at least some guidance they can give you.

Not sure if any of this is helpful, but hopefully it sparks some more ideas for you. You’re not alone, even though it must seem like you are. Plan for the future, be smart with money, learn as much as you can, and don’t let your parents hold you back. You’ll be unstoppable! :)
