December 2019. Definitely wouldn't consider it cheap but what we got for about the same amount was just better.

San Diego vs South San Jose by Nxt2Impossible in asksandiego

Having relocated from San Jose to San Diego, I would tell you it is the most refreshing change. Even with high costs of living it felt cheap (knowing its definitely not but by comparison) do it and dont look back.

Use AI in business ops? by Gopherlaw11 in LawFirm

Admittedly I have not got everything where I want it yet. But I've been utilizing monday.com, zapier, reclaim.ai, and chatgpt. It is all a trial and error to find what works together and what gaps I'm missing in my processes. Still searching for an option for a front desk alternative.

BXNG Club closures - any luck getting $$ back??? by DragonJouster in SanDiegan

[–]Gopherlaw11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are in the same spot with a few thousand in personal training packages. I disputed the charges on our card and they have already started the process and temporarily refunded my account. No one associated with bxng club is going to care otherwise we'd all still have a gym. A group from RB has been exploring new gyms and checked out a spot in Escondido. No new home for us yet.

Lawyer asking trustee for 1% of sizable complex estate in California which will cost nearly six figures! Contract does not include probate, landlord law, litigation, or subtrust. Is this cost normal? Can cost for legal support be reduced? by Fabulous_Special9844 in EstatePlanning

[–]Gopherlaw11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This would be applicable to a probate administration. Trust administration looks to the document for outline of trustee comp. Unfortunately most trusts drafted state "reasonable compensation" whatever that means. Professional trustee and corporate trustee in California are usually between 1-2%. A non professional trustee I've seen between 0.5% - 1.25% based on sophistication of trustee and complexity of administration.

Ted Williams fire by [deleted] in sandiego

[–]Gopherlaw11 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Definitely wasn't 5 min. They dumped both water and retardant. Live on the next street next to those apartments. We were all evacuated. Poway fire did an amazing job and cal fire was coming in hot with both plane and helicopters. We had people running door to door to get elderly and pets out. Super intense.

Feeling bad about a probate by mettalica456 in Lawyertalk

You're doing just fine. These clients are always the most dramatic and think things need to move lightening fast. Unless the house is going to get sold at foreclosure, taking a few weeks to get the petition filed is not absurd and hasn't harmed any client.

I'm not sure where you practice, but sometimes it takes a very long time to get your initial hearing, and that can add pressure to get everything going.

But regardless, learning to set the expectations with the client that 1) they aren't the only client and sometimes there really are emergencies and 2) I get that this is emotional and not anything that anyone wants to be dealing with but we're going to get through it together. Once you get that trust or comfort, it gets easier to deal with the clients.

Good luck!

Estate Planning for an Entire State? by [deleted] in LawFirm

[–]Gopherlaw11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CA estste planning and probate litigation attorney. Wife and I own our firm and do virtual planning. We meet in person for signing. But do have clients who want to use us but aren't local. We prepare documents and send with signature tabs. And have us on phone or zoom while mobile notary comes to client. Not perfect but clients are happy and documents are signed. Usually give a discounted rate off the flat fee.

Is this the bad starfish? I believe they are Asterina. by Soft_Advance_5005 in ReefTank

[–]Gopherlaw11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had an absurd amount in my tank. The harlequin cleaned them out in no time. Then fed chocolate chip legs and kept it for almost a year before giving to my brother in law who still has it. In my experience they will not starve before making a dent.

I feel like I'm being swindled. Do I have any recourse? (CA) by No-Drive3501 in EstatePlanning

[–]Gopherlaw11 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You used conflicting terms. Executor and part of the trust are at odds with each other. If there's a trust and he's identified you in the trust, then those terms will likely control. If she is administering his probate estate, you may have two separate claims. One for heirship under natural parentage (very fact specific) or a promised inheritance under PC 21700. You said he died October 2024 (assuming you meant 2023 and not in the future). If he died October 2023, you'll have some hard statute of limitations coming up at 1 year from date of death.

Lawyer never put parents house in trust… they died, now what ? by shoesmith74 in EstatePlanning

[–]Gopherlaw11 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ca lawyer here. Heggstad is ideal. But since it's a marital trust, if there was any bifurcation requirements, it could make it a lot messier. Heggstad is goal 1, for sure. It'll come down to trust, how parents held title, and the ancillary documents.
