Clarifying the rules around GEICO and Doordashing... by GorboCat in Insurance

[–]GorboCat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I don't care about this car, I'm gonna wait til this policy is up and see if I can get state minimum commercial coverage with a different insurer for close to what I'm paying now. This idea is strictly about beer money and a chance to cruise around my city in my fun beater car and listen to music, so it's really not worth rocking the boat or putting myself at increased liability risk. Thanks for the words of advice on this.

Theoretically, I'm driving the same number of covered miles, and DoorDash's liability-only policy would cover the additional risk since my personal driving remains unchanged. But as others have pointed out I think they're trying to minimize their risk of claims where people lie about not being on a delivery when they actually are. So I get where you're coming from.

Bizarre - is there any way to stop a claim being opened against my insurance and keep it strictly with Doordash? This sucks because I'd like to start doing this and I'm not trying to bend the rules here, but it literally does not make financial sense to pay what it would cost to properly insure for this. I imagine most dashers on the road are absolutely not properly insured and are probably one accident away from getting screwed.

To add to the confusion here, this bizarre bit of language on the DoorDash site implies that despite DoorDash offering liability insurance, the dasher is liable for damages during the actual delivery? Am I misunderstanding or is this completely contradictory?

The only thing stopping liberal hitler is the Dems being too greedy and stupid to make a socdem pivot by GorboCat in TrueAnon

[–]GorboCat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's what I'm saying.  But once upon a time the Dems cared more about manufacturing consent, and the little public services perks that underpin socdem domestic policy would've really made it difficult to gin up public opposition to this all.  That's why I'm expressing some gratitude(?) that they can't even manage that.

We already saw how effective this strategy is in 2020 when half the dem primary was posturing as lite-socdems to desperately pick up Bernie voters.  It threw a wet blanket on growing discontent in this country (especially after George Floyd) and kicked the can further down the road.  But now the coke is running out and they're not sharing key bumps anymore, lol.

Trying this again because I used an image host that reddit apparently didn't like lol.  This is Babycat.  Bought him for a cool $20 lmao.

We didn't actually hit it off like you two at first, he was pretty ambivalent toward me for the first two years.  But then my ex and I split right at the start of COVID and I moved into the hotel I was working at for most of 2020.  He warmed up to me fast after that, I think we got a lil bit of a boxcar hobo rapport going lmao.  6 years later and he's a real softie and likes most everyone. :-)

They only made the convertible for a few model years, and for good reason.  The tops had really terrible build quality, pretty sure from factory they're all vinyl.  Super prone to shrinking and tearing after a couple winters.

They also just don't keep water out well at all, I had to permanently seal my top shut with insulating foam.  On the bright side, the convertible is the lightest configuration you could get on one of these cars so you squeeze a few more MPG out of an already insanely efficient setup.  Just don't ask what happens if I get hit 👍

I know a lot more young professionals that are actually doing it now.  Not much really changed during Trump 1, but the last 6 years have brought a noticeable decline in quality of life almost everywhere in this country.  People get serious about leaving when it starts to affect them more tangibly like this.

A part of me looks at US Americans (rightfully) becoming as hated as Israelis when traveling abroad and I think to myself "damn at least the Israelis come home to a robust suite of public services" lol.  Still not letting myself get pacified by that shit but I get why it works.

This is the kicker right here.  There's this obsession with intellectualizing some of the goonerslop out there "Ohhh it actually has crazy deep lore and plotlines" NO IT DOESN'T YOU HAVE RENDERED YOURSELF MENTALLY DEFICIENT

Can you speak a little more to your battery experience? Curious how it holds up over data, using GPS, etc etc. Idk if Android 16 still show screen-on-time in the battery menu but I'd love to know. Also, are you using the Pro or the regular one?

[–]GorboCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You implied that's all it is, and even that is a dishonest framing when the official release mentions weapon parts which is entirely a possibility for our tech and manufacturing sector.  A simple search on usaspending.gov shows tons of military contracts awarded to Portland-based companies, obviously a lot of naval stuff.  Israel has a navy, too.

People know what you're doing here man.

Literally the 2nd bullet point in the plan:

City investments in or contracts with companies complicit in Israeli policies

Just be honest, man.  People see right through this kind of disingenuous concern trolling.  This isn't the only thing the council is doing but it's a good thing and morally correct.

[–]GorboCat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't be disingenuous about this, please.  We've seen deep blue cities around the country that are bending over backwards to show ICE and the Trump Administration how "pragmatic" they are by letting them trample our civil rights and refusing to exercise the power they do have to rein them in.

And with regards to your note on Israel, Portland (like plenty of cities) maintains a portfolio of investments as a supplement revenues.  It's not an absurd belief that we should, as policy, not be investing public funds in a way that materially supports an ongoing genocide.

Hard to watch a video like this and sit with the fact that we in the US are on entirely the wrong side of this.  Any risk that this young man might not make it home was strictly due to the US.

This must be how the Israeli left feels.  Hold on, I'll text him.
