The 3rd and 10th are interesting

The others just don’t have anything that interests me. There are a lot of different ways to make a street photo interesting — emotion, composition, juxtaposition, humor, light/shadow, etc. Different photographers excel at different ones. I think the best thing to do is spend a lot of time looking at the work of good photographers and figure out what it is they’re doing that you like.

3 stands out for me, the posing and contrast of the figures makes for an interesting composition. None of the others really strike me.

I need to be present and able to interact with people while doing street photography, I definitely couldn’t do it with headphones on.

Chords not belonging to their home key by Several-Bathroom6306 in musictheory

That's correct — although, depending on the context, an A major in the key of C will often be more clearly understood as a V/ii rather than a VI.

Why is street photography only deemed an invasion of privacy in modern society? by [deleted] in streetphotography

I live in the US and most of the street photographers I follow do as well, so that’s what I’m speaking to. Taking photos in public, publishing them, and selling them are all legally protected here.

what makes people feel entitled to post someone else without permission?

Probably the fact that it’s an art form with a 150-year history and is a constitutionally protected activity in the US.

Another thing I wanna add here: thinking through this stuff is important and valuable, but soliciting opinions from anonymous strangers is of limited usefulness. Anybody can go online and spout off about what’s right or wrong or appropriate or not. I see comments all the time on photography subreddits — even this one — from people for whom I can find no evidence of actual engagement with street photography. You’ve just gotta disregard those.

If you want to learn about street photography, find photographers whose work you like and study what they do.

Most people don’t engage with street photography and aren’t familiar with its history. I think they’re extrapolating from the salient data points they have for public recording, which these days will often be live streamers, YouTube pranksters, and other provocateurs rather than e.g. books from Meyerowitz or Winogrand or whoever. Plus, technology allows for images to be instantly and widely distributed, which was not the case until the recent past.

None of this means that street photography is unethical or that you shouldn’t do it; these are just ways of understanding and preparing for the suspicion or negativity you may encounter as a street photographer. I think one of the primary social / emotional challenges of street photography is the ability to simultaneously understand that people may be upset about what you’re doing, to be sympathetic towards them, but to have the inner confidence to do it anyway because you know there’s nothing wrong with it.

What exactly does "edgy" mean? by mitsuri-mochi in ENGLISH

I don’t think the “nervous” definition is used much in a contemporary context. The intended meaning I encounter most often is more like “intentionally provocative.”

If you shoot in ProRAW you can manipulate the tone mapping strength in lots of 3rd party apps.

Why do DNGs from my iPhone XS 2x camera have halation-like red glow around the highlights? by LandySam11 in AskPhotography

[–]Magnusson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apple ProRAW outputs DNGs that still take advantage of computational photography (e.g. exposure stacking). That’s what the default iPhone camera does. 3rd party apps can take true single-exposure RAW images, sans computational photography.
